What are the responsibilities and job description for the Learning Support (LS) Instructor (Maternity Leave Coverage) position at Thacher Montessori School?
The Learning Support (LS) Instructor (Maternity Leave coverage) plays a vital role in assisting students individually with their assignments while collaborating closely with parents, teaching staff, and other academic professionals. In a Montessori classroom, the Montessori Instructor is responsible for implementing the curriculum, while the LS Instructor works in partnership with the classroom teacher to determine the most effective approach to support each student’s learning needs.
The LS Instructor should be an expert in teaching executive function skills, addressing language-based learning differences, and supporting students with receptive language challenges.
This role requires strong instructional, interpersonal, and communication skills, along with patience and a genuine passion for working with students of varying needs. The ideal candidate will hold a degree in Special Education, Education, or a related field (Master’s preferred) and possess State certification in Special Education.
Additionally, the LS Instructor is a member of the Admissions Committee and provides expertise in evaluating prospective students to determine the school’s ability to appropriately support their needs.
Duties and Responsibilities
Provide individualized instruction for students through both push-in and pull-out support.
Assess student progress regularly and maintain thorough records.
Communicate student achievement and progress through reports and discussions.
Participate in Parent-Teacher Conferences as needed.
Meet with parents to discuss student progress and provide guidance on learning support and assessment accommodations.
Support teaching staff by offering resources, training, and strategies to enhance learning for all students.
Collaborate with administration to develop and maintain effective communication and documentation protocols related to learning support.
Serve as a liaison with local school districts and attend relevant meetings.
Participate in the Admissions Committee, providing expertise in evaluating prospective students to determine the school’s ability to support their needs appropriately.
Perform additional duties as assigned by the Head of School.
