Role and Responsibilities
- Teaching Middle School Wheels and Upper School Wheels classes.
- Collaborating with the Lower School to implement Wheels experiences in Grades K-4.
- Strengthening and fortifying the scope and sequence of the cycling curriculum, in conjunction with the Lower School outdoor education program and the after-school cycling program.
- Employing standards-based instructional and assessment practices.
- Serving on a grade-level team to support the socioemotional, academic, and intellectual development of students.
- Serving as an Advisor to a small group of students (includes academic coaching, facilitating conversations on social justice and cultural competency, and supporting the development of skills).
- Working with the Assistant Heads and Division Heads to advise on curriculum development, educational technology, and other learning needs.
- Collaborating with Faculty on the integration of the Wheels program into the curriculum and other signature programs.
- Collaborating with the Director of Facilities in managing the physical infrastructure needed to support the program.
- Managing bike repair part-time employee.
- Participating in faculty meetings.
- Perform other duties in support of the School mission as assigned or as determined by academics.
Skills, Qualifications, and Attributes
- Expertise in bicycle design and mechanics.
- Expertise in cycling.
- Ability to obtain and maintain Safe Sport certification, including First Aid/CPR.
- Ability to share expertise and passion with students.
- Ability to design and implement age-appropriate programs for students.
- Ability to work effectively with educators in a wide range of academic disciplines.
- Experience with trail building (preferred).
- Experience in coaching mountain biking or gravel riding (preferred).
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand and/or sit for extended periods of time.
- Ability to lift, push or pull heavy objects sometimes exceeding 50 lbs.
- Using one or two hands to grasp, catch, swing, or throw objects.
- Ability to ride a mountain bike and instruct on mountain biking knowledge.
- Understanding the speech of another person.
- Some work performed outside, exposed to changing weather conditions.
- Ability to see details of objects that are both near and far away.
