Location: Irvine, United States of America Thales people architect solutions that enable two-thirds of planes to take off and land safely. We create in-flight entertainment systems that engross 50 million fliers every year and we develop the avionics that control the world’s largest commercial aircrafts. Our simulators train the next generation of pilots for fighter jets, transporters and search and rescue helicopters. And, together, each and every member of our aerospace team makes a difference. Staff System Test Manager The staff System Test Manager (IVVQ) is responsible for planning, participating and supervising the efficient integration, verification and validation (IVV) execution for In-Flight Entertainment (IFE) systems, aircraft communication systems and supporting systems. He/she assures that the appropriate means and practices are applied to guarantee the adherence to defined requirements and quality standards with minimal wasted effort or inefficiencies. The IVVQ Engineer is expected to become an expert in the way the customers use the system. This knowledge is then incorporated into the planning of all IVV activities by the IVVQ Engineer. The IVVQ Engineer is responsible for the Test plan and reports, assuring that the scope of the IVV activities fully covers all aspects of the system under test, while taking all previous verification activities on comparable systems into account to optimize the test effort. Essential Functions / Key Areas of Responsibility Responsible for the Estimation, Planning and Execution of IVV activities Decides on the appropriate test strategy, modules and practices Finds synergies between test activities for multiple programs Creates the Test plan and reports Works closely with project team to agree on testing durations and project risks Proactively drives resolution of cross-functional dependencies for execution of the IVV plan Efficiently manages test resources (staff, software & hardware) Manages Defects for the assigned programs Represents IVV in Final System Acceptance Tests (FSATs) Can act as Scrum Master, upholds Agile values and principles. Organizes and facilitates the reviews planned in Scrum. Can act as a Product Owner, defines the order in which the features will be developed. Specifies the need, gives acceptance criteria, sets the expected level of functional quality, flags any ambiguities, and validates the completed features. Can act as a Work Package Manager, being responsible for scope, budget and schedule of the assigned Work Other duties as assigned by the employee’s manager Manages the IVV engineering activities of any criticality projects. Including Customer FSAT (Final Systems Acceptance Test) coordination with program teams in IFE as well as external Customers, suppliers and subcontractors. The IVVQ Engineer leads CFRD/SFRD IVV engineering activities necessary for successful delivery of projects for internal and external customers. Willing to travel on occasion both domestically as well as internationally (up to 10%) Minimum Requirements: Skills, Experience, Education, Technical/Specialized Knowledge, Certifications, Language Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or related field with 8-12 years’ experience, or Master’s degree in field with 6 years’ experience Project Management and communication skills Business acumen Familiarity with common system weaknesses (race conditions, synchronization problems, border values, intermittent problems in SW & HW) Creativity in detecting and provoking possible problems Test Management & Test Methodologies (Integration, Verification & Validation) Expertise in common test practices (Automation, Functional & Non-Function tests, use cases) Ability to read and interpret requirement documentation Deep knowledge of Unix /Linux/ Android systems Deep knowledge of Ethernet networks Deep knowledge of common defect management and tools (ClearQuest, JIRA) Knowledge of Agile and common tools (JIRA, VersionOne) Good motivator / Team leader Strong analytical abilities Familiarity with common system weaknesses (race conditions, synchronization problems, border values, intermittent problems in SW & HW) Ability to understand and create test cases Comfortable with handling and performing troubleshooting on software & hardware Ability to understand and analyze installation diagrams showing how the lab and aircraft are set up Attention to detail Expertise in defect reporting, characterization, and management workflows High level of proficiency in MS products such as Excel, Word, Access, PowerPoint Agile experience Preferred Qualifications Experience in the aerospace industry; avionics experience preferred Minimum ten (10) years of experience in an engineering integration, verification or validation team Understanding of software development methods and electrical/mechanical design User Interfaces, Networking, SATCOM, and/or communication systems test experience Software and/or Hardware development design experience Experience in Test Automation The above has been provided as examples of the type of work performed by employees assigned to this job classification.
