Thales Defense & Security, Inc. has an opening for a Mechanical Design Manager. This position is located in the Clarksburg office and reports to the Director of Hardware and Support Engineering.
Responsibilities
- Provides technical and managerial leadership for the Mechanical Design Department.
- Proactively interfaces with project leads and engineering management to resolve issues, coordinate resources, and manage technical activities.
- Works with department staff to develop and achieve strategic business plan objectives.
- Responsible and accountable for hiring, performance reviews, disciplinary process, salary planning, budgets, schedules and staffing for the Mechanical Design Department.
- Develops proposals and labor/material estimates for the Mechanical Engineering discipline.
- Demonstrates strong support for company values and vision.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
This position carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's operating policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, training and developing employees; effectives staff plans - assigning and directing work; performance appraisals, rewarding and providing for employee discipline when required; addressing complaints and resolving problems. Active mentoring and development of staff is a critical element of the supervisory responsibilities in order to create a high performing cohesive team.
Qualifications

- Citizenship required. - Applicants selected may be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.
- BSME or equivalent; Advanced technical degree or MBA is desirable.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills – fluent in English.
- Highly skilled at conflict resolution and achieving consensus.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Skills (Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint).
- Expert knowledge of MCAD tools (Creo, SolidWorks for example) - integration experience with ECAD tools preferred.
- Understand ERP and PLM systems - previous SAP and Windchill experience a plus.
- 8 years as a Mechanical Design Engineer performing engineering design and support tasks of high complexity without technical assistance, coupled with technical leadership experience.
- Possesses in-depth knowledge of practical and theoretical Mechanical Engineering design as it applies to military communication products.
- Experience training, mentoring, and motivating less experienced engineers.
- Ability to comply with all Company guidelines, policies, procedures and embrace Company Core Values.
The annualized pay range for this role is $152,747- $195,176 USD along with a target incentive compensation plan (ICP) of 10%. The pay range provided is a good faith estimate representative of the experience level for the role described above. TDSI considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
