Position Overview We are seeking a Research Scientist with specialized expertise in Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS) and High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC). In this role, you will focus on utilizing a Waters GC-MS and an Agilent HPLC to analyze medicinal compounds, ensuring accurate detection, quantification, and characterization of chemicals in various samples. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in analytical chemistry, instrumentation, and data interpretation to support quality control, regulatory compliance, and process optimization.
Key ResponsibilitiesAnalytical Instrumentation & Testing
- Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot analytical instruments (Waters GC-MS and Agilent HPLC) for sample analysis.
- Develop and validate analytical methods for detecting and quantifying target compounds.
- Analyze and interpret chromatographic data, ensuring precision and accuracy.
- Perform routine and non-routine sample testing in compliance with industry standards and regulations.
Research & Development
- Design and execute experiments to optimize separation techniques and improve detection sensitivity.
- Investigate emerging contaminants and novel analytical methodologies.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support product innovation and quality improvements.
Regulatory & Compliance
- Ensure all laboratory practices align with Good Laboratory Practices (GLP), ISO, EPA, or other relevant regulations.
- Maintain thorough documentation of testing procedures, results, and reports.
- Contribute to technical reports and regulatory submissions as needed.
Equipment Maintenance & Troubleshooting
- Perform regular maintenance and calibration of Waters GC-MS and Agilent HPLC systems.
- Diagnose and resolve instrument issues, coordinating with service engineers when necessary.
- Stay current on advancements in chromatography and mass spectrometry technologies.
Collaboration & Communication
- Work closely with quality control, environmental testing, and production teams to ensure data integrity and operational efficiency.
- Present research findings to internal stakeholders and provide recommendations based on analytical results.
- Train and mentor junior laboratory personnel in chromatographic techniques and best practices.
Qualifications & Skills
Education
- Master’s or Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry, Environmental Science, Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
Experience
- Minimum 3–5 years of experience with GC-MS and HPLC in a research or industrial laboratory environment.
- Hands-on experience with environmental testing is highly preferred.
Technical Expertise
- Strong knowledge of chromatography principles, sample preparation, and mass spectrometry techniques.
- Proven experience in method development, validation, and troubleshooting of analytical instruments.
- Proficiency in data analysis software such as MassHunter, ChemStation, Empower, or equivalent.
