GENERAL FUNCTION

Responsible for enforcing credit and collection policies for the Company and its affiliates; analyzes credit worthiness of customers and establishes credit limits; monitors and reports accounts receivable aging and related statistics; communicates with Credit Supervisor, Account Managers and Company management on issues such as credit holds, changes to credit lines, changes in customer credit worthiness etc.

 

 

Job Summary

The Credit and Collections Specialist role is considered a time-sensitive position. It is a full-time, onsite role for which regular attendance is required to successfully perform the duties outlined below, under the direction of the Credit Supervisor.

  • Reviews credit applications and assesses credit risks; assigns appropriate credit limits; manages and adjusts existing credit limits as needed;
  • Reviews existing customer credit profiles and suggests changes to credit limits and/or credit terms as needed;
  • Works with customers to solve account problems resulting from incorrect billing, improper delivery, inaccurate information, slow payments, etc.;
  • Monitors outstanding account balances for specific, high visibility and high maintenance accounts, as well as balances for companywide operations;
  • Initiates appropriate actions to ensure collection of slow paying or delinquent balances, including phone contacts, reminders to Account Managers, written correspondence, referral to collection agencies, and, where appropriate, legal remedies;
  • Reporting of credit and collection status to management; takes action prescribed or recommended by Credit Supervisor and/or senior management to address issues raised;
  • Maintains high level of productivity and organization in approaching and completing assignments;
  • Demonstrates intellectual curiosity to identify root causes of recurrent problems, and the motivation to pursue and participate in the implementation of sustainable solutions;
  • Demonstrates flexibility and a collaborative attitude towards supporting other business needs as assigned.

Qualifications


Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business or related field preferred;
  • 2 years related experience in credit and collection activities for industrial or commercial enterprises preferred;
  • Relevant industry specific experience other than credit and collections may be considered
  • High proficiency in MS Office applications, as well as familiarity with general accounts receivable functions of ERP systems;
  • Understanding of financial information, including ratio analysis of financial statements, operating statistics, receivable and collection data;
  • Competency in mathematical concepts and computations (i.e. multiplication and division, addition and subtraction, percentages, fractions, ratios, metric conversions, etc.);
  • Speak, write and understand English fluently;
  • Ability to communicate in clear, concise manner in both written and oral communications;
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with changing conditions;
  • Organization and planning skills;
  • Demonstrated history of punctuality and consistent attendance.

 

Physical Requirements

  • Duties require use of computer keyboard and mouse, and telephone (possibly with wireless headset);
  • Must be able to sit in one place for extended periods of time, but may also require some limited movement around office locations;
  • No heavy lifting required.
