Position Summary:
We are seeking a highly motivated and talented Machine Learning Engineer Intern to join our AI Systems Group for Summer 2025. This role offers a unique opportunity to shape the future of maritime technology by developing cutting-edge AI and ML solutions for our advanced surveillance systems. You'll be working in an agile, startup environment where your contributions will have a direct and meaningful impact on our products and services.
As a key member of our team, you'll collaborate with world-class experts to solve complex challenges in maritime surveillance. The ideal candidate combines technical expertise with strong communication skills, capable of translating sophisticated concepts into practical solutions while effectively collaborating across teams.
Role and Responsibilities:
Implement and/or improve machine learning algorithms and features
US Citizen (due to contracts with the DoD and Navy, this is non-negotiable)
Currently pursuing a Bachelors, Masters, or PhD in a science, statistics, mathematics, or related technical field (i.e., Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Artificial Intelligence)
Proficiency in Computer Science fundamentals (i.e., data structures, algorithms, object-oriented programming, space-time complexity)
Experience with Git for version control
Experience working with ML frameworks like PyTorch
Bonus Points
Experience/general understanding of signal processing and image processing more specifically, acoustics data in a machine learning setting
Experience with Docker
Experience with cloud technologies (AWS) in particular S3
Experience with underwater acoustics/physics

- Evaluate and validate model performance through rigorous testing and analysis
- Test alternative approaches against benchmarked results
- Build and optimize robust data pipelines to handle large-scale, sensitive data processing
- Conduct exploratory data analysis
- Synthesize results and develop key visualizations for storytelling
- Collaborate with researchers, engineers, and domain experts
US Citizen (due to contracts with the DoD and Navy, this is non-negotiable)

- Proficiency in Python and commonly used libraries across data science and visualization (pandas, numpy, matplotlib, plotly, etc.)
Experience with Git for version control
Experience working with ML frameworks like PyTorch
- Foundational knowledge of stochastic processes (ex. course work, personal projects, previous work experience)
Bonus Points
Experience/general understanding of signal processing and image processing more specifically, acoustics data in a machine learning setting
Experience with Docker
- Experience in experiment design for AI development
Experience with cloud technologies (AWS) in particular S3
Experience with underwater acoustics/physics
Physical Requirements/Working Conditions:
- General office/administrative setting.
- Monthly travel as needed. 0% to 5% as needed locally.
- U.S. Citizenship is required.
