We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Director of Safety to lead our Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) initiatives, ensuring compliance with all safety regulations and fostering a culture of safety excellence across our operations.
Position Summary:
The Director of Safety will be responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing safety programs in compliance with OSHA, ISO 45001, DOT, USCG, and other regulatory standards. This role requires a strategic thinker with a hands-on approach to managing safety protocols for both onshore and offshore operations, including those involving offshore workers and environmental safety. The Director of Safety will collaborate with leadership and cross-functional teams to promote a safe working environment and mitigate risks.
Key Responsibilities:
Safety Program Management:
- Develop, implement, and maintain safety policies, procedures, and training programs in compliance with OSHA and ISO 45001 standards.
- Establish and monitor key safety performance indicators (KPIs) to assess the effectiveness of safety programs.
- Lead audits and inspections to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local safety regulations.
Regulatory Compliance:
- Ensure adherence to U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) and Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations for both onshore and offshore operations.
- Prepare and submit regulatory reports and documentation as required.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for all safety compliance audits and inspections.
Offshore and Environmental Safety:
- Develop and enforce safety protocols for offshore workers, including emergency response and rescue procedures.
- Conduct risk assessments and hazard analyses for offshore projects.
- Lead environmental safety initiatives to minimize environmental impact and ensure compliance with applicable regulations.
Training and Development:
- Develop and deliver safety training programs for employees and contractors, focusing on OSHA, ISO 45001, DOT, and USCG compliance.
- Conduct safety drills, including offshore emergency response simulations.
- Ensure accurate documentation and tracking of training certifications.
Incident Management:
- Investigate safety incidents, near-misses, and accidents to determine root causes and implement corrective actions.
- Maintain comprehensive incident records and provide regular reports to executive leadership.
Leadership and Collaboration:
- Lead a team of safety professionals, providing guidance and professional development opportunities.
- Collaborate with project managers and field supervisors to integrate safety practices into daily operations.
- Advise senior management on safety issues and regulatory changes.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in safety management.
- Proven experience managing safety for offshore operations.
Certifications:
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), or equivalent certifications preferred.
- ISO 45001 Lead Auditor Certification is a plus.
- OSHA 30-hour certification or higher.
Skills and Competencies:
- In-depth knowledge of OSHA, ISO 45001, DOT, USCG, and environmental safety regulations.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and leadership abilities.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and safety management software.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to travel to offshore sites as needed.
- Ability to conduct site inspections in various environments, including offshore platforms and vessels.
