The Magic Castle is one of Los Angeles' most sought-after venues, offering exceptional entertainment, food, and libations. We are currently seeking a Stage Manager to join our team and play a crucial role in delivering seamless theatrical experiences to our members and their guests.

 

Job Summary:

The Stage Manager is responsible for overseeing the technical operations of the showrooms on a nightly basis. Shows range from 18 to 45 minutes, and the ideal candidate will possess strong technical knowledge, superior customer service skills, and a commanding presence. This role requires a detail-oriented professional who can communicate effectively and work closely with magicians to ensure flawless execution of each performance.

 

This position reports to the Technical Director and requires prior experience in a reputable theatrical setting. As the Magic Castle is a private club, maintaining a high standard of professionalism and ensuring that members always come first is essential.

 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Work directly with magicians to ensure proper cueing and execution of lighting and sound.
  • Operate and troubleshoot sound, lighting, curtains, audience seating, and stage illusions to ensure seamless performances.
  • Ensure all theatrical equipment is maintained and operational before and after each performance.
  • Maintain the cleanliness and organization of the showrooms and backstage areas.
  • Assist in resolving electrical, IT, and minor maintenance issues.
  • Work in all showrooms as needed.
  • Coordinate with Floor Managers to ensure smooth show operations, including guest seating, emergency procedures, and timely start of performances.
  • Attend staff meetings as required.
  • Perform other theatrical and venue-related duties as assigned.

 

Minimum Qualifications & Skill Requirements:

  • Prior experience as a Stage Manager at a reputable theater, club, or entertainment venue.
  • Proficiency with sound and lighting equipment in a theatrical environment.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to work effectively with performers, staff, and management.
  • Professional, cordial, and polished demeanor at all times.
  • Strong time management skills, reliability, and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Bilingual preferred (not required).
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 25 lbs and be on your feet for extended periods (up to 8 hours)

Physical Demands & Work Environment

  • Ability to stand, climb stairs, walk, kneel, crouch, and lift objects up to 25 lbs.
  • Frequent movement between showrooms and backstage areas.
  • Work is primarily performed in a temperature-controlled indoor environment, with occasional exposure to loud noises.

 

Union Status

This position may be covered under a collective bargaining agreement (CBA) currently under negotiation. Stage Managers may be required to join the union and comply with its terms and conditions. Further details will be provided upon finalization of the CBA.

 

Work Schedule

  • Typical hours: 5:00 PM – 1:00 AM (subject to business demands).
  • Availability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and occasional mornings, as needed to support operational hours.
  • The club operates seven (7) days a week, with multiple shows per night.

 

Compensation

Hourly Rate: $30
