The Adventure Nook Preschool is looking for a strong, caring and experienced Infant/Young toddler teacher to join our team! Hours will be Monday-Friday from 9:00-2:00.

We strive for a balanced, nurturing, respectful and developmentally appropriate approach to education.

If you are the right candidate, you will be responsible for the care, supervision and management of a class of children in accord with the goals and curriculum plan of The Adventure Nook. Your principal duties will include: Create a nurturing, calming and developmentally appropriate classroom to ensure the safety and well-being of each child in your care. Conduct focused observations of children, carry out curriculum based activities on a daily basis and evaluate their effectiveness, maintain regular communication with parents and co-workers, and contribute to the effective operation of the overall school program. You will report directly to the Center Director.

Key Roles:

-Work with an assigned group of infants or toddlers, ages 6-36 months, applying best practices for toddler care.

- Ensure the safety of children through constant supervision, proper maintenance of equipment, and regular practice of fire drills and other emergency procedures.

- Facilitate and nurture the development of each child’s self-esteem, trust, and growing autonomy.

- Ensure that child care routines are carried out in a manner that is respectful, prompt, hygienic, and consistent with good child development principles. This includes routines related to diapering, hand washing, eating, and transitioning between activities.

- Respond quickly to children’s diverse and personal needs (verbal and non-verbal cues), temperament styles, abilities, and cultures in a respectful and age-appropriate manner.

- Maintain written records designed to evaluate each child and administer an accurate initial and year-end assessment.

- Maintain confidentiality of child and family information at all times.

- Provide experiences that promote individual expression through conversation, play, and creativity. This should be done in accordance with the curriculum used at The Adventure Nook.

- Prepare the learning environment for children to learn through active exploration and interaction with adult caregivers.

- Greet children and their parents warmly and with enthusiasm each morning.

- Initiate classroom activities daily (sing-a-longs, art projects, language activities, sensory exploration, outdoor stimulation) in accordance with the curriculum.

- Display children’s creative art work on bulletin boards.

- Partner with parents to develop educational and family goals and establish a regular communication process.

- Collaborate and partner with other teachers to further the education and interests of the children, and contribute to the high-quality of care and operation of the center.

- Participate in regularly scheduled staff meetings, school-wide events, parent-caregiver conferences, in-service training, and other meetings as directed.

- Other duties as assigned

Required Education and Experience

- A college degree in child development or early education; or

- A college degree in an appropriate human service or education field (e.g. psychology, special education, music, social work) including some courses in child development; or

- An associate degree in child development or early childhood education; or

- A child development associate credential (CDA); or

- At least one year of experience in an infant/toddler or preschool program.
