Currently, The Agnes Irwin School is seeking a full-time Upper School English Teacher for the 2025-2026 academic year. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Teach four sections of Upper School English courses
- Implement current curriculum and contribute to its ongoing development
- Prepare course materials
- Maintain student attendance and grade records
- Evaluate, grade and provide feedback on student work
- Meet individually with students during Office Hours and planning periods
- Inform students, parents and Division Director of students progress through written reports and conferences
- Create and maintain a caring, safe environment conducive to students doing their best work
- Participate in the life of the Upper School by serving as an advisor and/or club sponsor, as necessary
- Participate in all staff meetings, assemblies, and other required school functions, including occasional evening or weekend events
- Work constructively with parents and colleagues
- Attend conferences, workshops, and other professional development opportunities, and participate in the faculty evaluation process
- Assume other duties as assigned

- Will foster the skills necessary for sophisticated and observant literacy, as well as the joy in learning that can sustain a lifelong love of reading
- Can develop writing instruction that combines the best of traditional methodologies with an innovative vision of writing in the 21st century.
- Has a strong background in many genres and traditions of literature, with proven competency in teaching across culture, era, and geography.
- Is willing and eager to take on co-curricular responsibilities outside of the classroom (eg advising, coaching, club advisor, trip lead, etc), and who finds joy in working with high school students and in participating in school life.
- Demonstrates a dedication to continuous growth and development in areas of diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging and commits to our DEIB Philosophy at Agnes Irwin
- Bachelors Degree in English or related field (advanced degree preferred)
- 2-3 years of classroom experience teaching English is preferred
- Proficiency in the use of classroom technology: interactive smart boards, LMS, various Google and Microsoft Office applications, etc.
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment and respect different values and viewpoints
