Maintenance Technician

The Davis Academy, an independent Kindergarten Prep – Eighth Grade school in Dunwoody/Sandy Springs seeks an experienced maintenance technician. This position is responsible for performing any combination of maintenance (preventative and routine) and repair duties to maintain the facilities in a clean and orderly manner. The duties will include HVAC, electrical, mechanical, plumbing, roofing, structural, flooring, ceiling, concrete, locks, windows, doors, electronics, and interior finishes. Maintenance Technician is also responsible for assisting with events.

A. Maintenance

1. Responsible for making sure the Lower School and the Middle School is opened properly and is safe each day.

2. Assist with incoming work requests and emergency repairs.

3. Participates in 24-hour on call duty on a rotating schedule.

4. Performs routine maintenance and repair activities such as assembling furniture, painting, pressure washing surfaces, replacing ceiling tiles, plumbing, concrete work, changing light bulbs, changing light fixture ballasts, etc. as assigned by the Facilities & Building Manager.

5. Performs minor carpentry work (painting, sheetrock repair, floor tiles and carpet) as assigned by The Facilities & Building Manager

6. Assist in preventive maintenance schedule for overall facility and equipment with information supplied by the manufacturers’ manual.

7. Maintains and repairs a variety of HVAC Systems to include changing filters, cleaning coils, cleaning drains, troubleshooting malfunctions, replacing thermostats, installing belts, installing/repairing duct work and supply/return grills.

8. Assembles, installs, and repairs wiring, electrical and electronic components, piping systems and plumbing, machinery, and equipment.

9. Moves furniture, equipment, building components, and supplies, either manually, by using hand trucks, or by using other moving equipment

10. Notifies Facilities & Building Manager concerning the need for major and minor repairs or maintenance to structures, operating systems, tools, or equipment to ensure proper and safe operations.

11. Helps maintain the cleanliness of the facilities to include but not limited to sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, picking up trash, taking trash to the dumpster as well as cleaning desk, tables, etc.

12. Follows procedures for the use of chemical cleaners and power equipment to prevent damage to floors, fixtures, equipment, and building components.

13. Uses tools ranging from common hand and power tools, such as hammers, hoists, saws, drills, screw drivers, sockets, and wrenches, to precision measuring instruments and electrical and electronic testing devices.

14. Return and/or ensure the return of all tools, material and equipment to appropriate storage area in a timely manner.

15. Ensure all tools, equipment and materials are maintained in a safe and clean manner.

16. Keeps storage areas and carts well-stocked, clean, and tidy.

17. Maintains required records and logs and ensures they are clear, legible and accurate.

18. Observes all safety rules, regulations, policies and procedures of the Facilities Department.

B. Events

1. Review Master School Calendar and stay informed of meetings and activities.

2. Prepares room set up and breakdown according to Master School Calendar.

3. Assist with room set up and clean up.

4. Assist with gate operations for events.

5. Assist the Director of Security with parking and security as needed.

C. Special projects and other duties as assigned by the Facilities & Building Manager, Chief Finance Officer or Head of School.

• High School Diploma or GED
• Minimum three years’ experience in general building maintenance
• Basic knowledge of plumbing, irrigation systems, light construction, painting, electrical, general facilities maintenance and related tools
• Knowledge of safety practices and procedures related to general building maintenance
• Be able to walk, stand, maintain balance, climb ladders, move up and down stairs
• Turn, bend and reach.
• Be able to occasionally lift up to 75 lbs.
• Able to withstand inside and outside environmental conditions, including but not limited to dirt, pollen, sun, humidity, fumes, temperatures, noise, odors.
• Able to deal with moderate levels of stress related to time constraints and hazards of the jobs.
• Available to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends, and special events.
• Be able to work in a fast-paced environment with the ability to prioritize and multitask.
