What are the responsibilities and job description for the Flagger position at The Allen Company, Inc.?
Flaggers are responsible for public safety. Their focus is to make sure the citizens and our road construction crews get home safely, every day. Flaggers direct the movement of traffic through our construction zones, using hand and flagging signals. They inform drivers of the routes through the construction zones and alert the crews if a vehicle fails to adhere to signals to prevent injury to our road crews.
As a Flagger you will:
- Control traffic passing near, in, and around work zones with flags and paddles
- Communicate with other flaggers to ensure safety.
- Clean and prepare construction sites to eliminate possible hazards.
- Ability to understand and apply safe traffic control. Sometimes in stressful situations.
- Dig ditches or trenches, back fill excavations, and compact and level earth to grade specifications, using picks, shovels, pneumatic tampers, and rakes.
- Signal equipment operators to facilitate alignment, movement, and adjustment of machinery, equipment, and materials.
- Load, unload, and identify building materials, machinery, and tools, and distribute them to the appropriate locations, according to project plans and specifications.
- All other duties assigned.
This person must have reliable transportation, must be able to arrive to work on time and represent The Allen Company, Inc., in a positive manner and interact well with the traveling public.
Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Strong mechanical aptitude.
- Safety Orientated
- Operate equipment.
- Clean Driving Record
- Be able to lift at least 50 pounds.
- Physically able to climb.
- Able to function outside year round in climates of heat, cold and rain.
- Valid driver’s license with a positive driving record.
- Be available to work night shift schedule including overtime and Saturdays as needed.
- Seasonal position that will be subject to winter layoffs.
- Must be able to pass a pre employment drug screen, physical and background evaluation.
