Description

POSITION OVERVIEW:

As a SBBH Therapist, the clinician will be an integrated member of the school community and will help to increase access to social-emotional health services and improve students' academic functioning and wellness. The Therapist will work in close collaboration with the Coordination of Services Team (COST) at school, maintain an active caseload of EPSDT clients and meet monthly productivity goals for clients referred through COST; attend weekly group supervision at the Children’s Outpatient Department in Hayward, and participate in trainings as assigned by his/her clinical supervisor.  The Staff Therapist will work within all compliance standards; complete documentation in a timely manner per La Familia’s policy; and maintain strict confidentiality protocols. La Familia proposes linguistically appropriate (Spanish) and culturally sensitive mental health services, specializing in trauma-focused and family-oriented treatment. This position reports to the EPSDT Clinical Director. This role will uphold and champion the agency’s mission, vision, and values and contribute to a collaborative and inclusive work culture.

Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities: 

  • Attends monthly COST meetings at the school and participates in any follow-up mental health coordination meetings in order to ensure appropriate referrals and service implementation.
  • Makes psychological evaluations of assigned clients; determines appropriate diagnostic procedures and tests to be used; clinical interviews with clients and other interested persons to develop information pertinent to diagnosis and treatment.
  • Interviews clients and families to gather social and psychiatric data; prepares mental health/environmental case histories for use in diagnosis; and participates in developing psychological treatment programs and case planning for clients.
  • Provides individual psychotherapy (a minimum of 25 students per year with an average monthly caseload of 18-20 students) during school hours.
  • Provides group psychotherapy (at least 28 hours of group psychotherapy per academic school year) during school hours. 
  • Works to engage families into treatment; is available to provide services in family settings and in the evenings, as needed.
  • Meets with clients (and families) for regular therapeutic interviews; guides the client (and family) in understanding his/her illness and contributing personal, social, and economic factors; assists client (and family) in developing realistic plans; advises client/family on community resources; and makes referrals and other arrangements as necessary.
  • Provides consultation to school staff and other mental health clinicians as necessary.
  • Participates in social and/or school events at the school.
  • Complies with all agency’s policies and procedures and maintains strict HIPPA guidelines.
  • Submits billings/client logs on a daily basis to the Outpatient Administrator located in the Outpatient Department in Hayward.
  • Follows Short-Doyle Medi-Cal charting and documentation requirements and agency regulations in a timely manner.
  • Provides input and feedback on potential related projects/programs, as appropriate.
  • Supports agency-wide Quality Improvement efforts.

  • Attend trainings and participate in events relevant to key responsibilities
  • Leads and collaborate on special projects related to agency objectives as appropriate 

Qualifications


QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:

  • Graduate degree in mental health (e.g. PhD, PSY.D., MSW and/or MFT).
  • Bilingual Spanish/English strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of modern clinical psychology, including abnormal psychology, personality theory, diagnostic interviewing. Psychotherapy including brief therapy and behavior change, casework, systems theory, family therapy, community psychology and community mental health.
  • Ability to work as part of an integrated team and the capacity to be flexible, as needs and special events arise; 
  • Ability to determine the needs of individual situations regarding diagnostic and therapeutic techniques, take an effective course of action, and follow through with effective treatment plans.
  • Excellent speaking and writing abilities.
  • Knowledge of the use of computer systems such as Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and FileMaker Pro or similar database applications.
  • Valid California driver’s license and current automobile insurance.
  • Ability to pass a background clearance and clear TB Test.  
  • Non-Profit and Community Based Organization experience highly desirable.
  • Demonstrates and models excellent “customer service” orientation, especially in the ability to interact with people at all levels within and outside the agency.
  • Thinks independently and can make informed decisions when needed. 
  • Exercises extreme discretion with the ability to hold, balance and transmit public and confidential information needed by various parties. 
  • Proficient using MS Office products, particularly Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.
  • Acquires or maintains proficiency in using Google Drive products, including Docs, Sheets, and Forms.
  • Valid CA Driver’s license
    • Auto insurance:  Personal vehicle may be used for business related purposes; it is recommended you inform your auto insurance carrier.
