Description

POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Early Childhood Mental Health program prioritizes services to children born – 8 years of age, but may also provide services to children and youth up to age 21, as needed. The Staff Therapist will maintain an active caseload of EPSDT clients and meet monthly productivity goals; attend weekly group and individual clinical supervision; participate in weekly training as assigned by his/her clinical supervisor or LFCS administration; and attend weekly Outpatient Mental Health staff meetings.  The Staff Therapist will work within all compliance standards; complete documentation in a timely manner per LFCS policy; and maintain strict confidentiality protocols. This role will uphold and champion the agency’s mission, vision, and values and contribute to a collaborative and inclusive work culture.

Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities: 

  • Makes psychological evaluations of assigned cases; determines appropriate diagnostic procedures and tests to be used; clinical interviews with clients and other interested persons to develop information pertinent to diagnosis and treatment.
  • Provides psychotherapy in group, individual, and family settings; provides consultation to clinic staff members as necessary; interviews clients and families to gather social and psychiatric data; prepares mental health/environmental case histories for use in diagnosis; and participates in developing psychological treatment programs and case planning for clients.
  • Meets with clients/families for regular therapeutic interviews; guides the client/family in understanding his/her illness and contributing personal, social, and economic factors; assists client/family in developing realistic plans; advises client/family on community resources; and makes referrals and other arrangements as necessary.
  • Helps increase prosocial and social engagement for children while helping children negotiate their own emotions and behaviors and decrease mental health symptoms as developmentally appropriate
  • Supports family-driven practices by bringing the family perspective to mental health service delivery.
  • Supports families in navigating systems of care.
  • Reduces community perception of stigma related to clients’ mental health issues.
  • Provides services at agency offices, home settings, other field locations, and via telehealth (as needed).
  • Complies with all agency’s policies and procedures.
  • Maintains strict HIPPA guidelines, submits billings on a daily basis/submits client logs on a     daily basis.
  • Follow Short-Doyle Medi-Cal charting and documentation requirements and Agency regulations in a timely manner.
  • Provides input and feedback on potential related projects/programs, as appropriate.
  • Supports agency-wide Quality Improvement efforts.

Other 

  • Attend trainings and participate in events relevant to key responsibilities
  • Track and regularly report on key metrics for responsible function areas
  • Leads and collaborate on special projects related to agency objectives as appropriate 

Qualifications


QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:

  • Currently enrolled in a graduate degree program in mental health, having completed half of the program (e.g. PhD, PSY.D., MSW and/or MFT)
  • Bilingual Spanish/English required.
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of modern clinical psychology, including abnormal psychology, personality theory, diagnostic interviewing. Psychotherapy including early childhood mental health specialty and early development, sensory integration, dysregulation and behavior change, casework, systems theory, family therapy, community psychology, and community mental health.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients and staff of all levels.
  • Ability to determine the needs of individual situations regarding diagnostic and therapeutic techniques, take an effective course of action, and follow through with effective treatment plans.
  • Excellent speaking and writing abilities.
  • Knowledge of the use of computer systems such as Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and FileMaker Pro or similar database applications.
  • Temporary remote work due to the pandemic, but required to be on site to take care of administrative tasks
  • Valid CA Driver’s license
