Position Overview
The Specialist II, Logistics position is responsible for logistical coordination of a relatively complex nature. The scope of responsibility could be internal rail/truck fleet management, tracking fleet movement and inbound/outbound commodity; external management of shipping schedules, serving customers by arranging for carriers, rail cars, and/or barges in the shipment of commodity product; or a combination thereof. This position is highly collaborative and shares information internally to optimize efficiency and effectiveness, while delivering extraordinary service.
Key Responsibilities
- Implement and monitor movement and shipping activities which optimize fleet utilization and fulfill orders. This could include dispatching and daily assignment of work.
- Continually maintain market knowledge, conduct research, track tariff and regulation changes, and leverage experience to make logistics decisions and negotiate terms that are competitive and meet financial, operational and service goals.
- Analyze data and information and make recommendations toward continuous improvement efforts.
- Develop collaborative relationships across internal departments and with external service providers and industry groups to understand and facilitate holistic coordination amongst their independent needs and requirements, preventing and resolving issues.
- Manage administrative processes surrounding logistics which could include managing system information and providing reports and data, resolving claims and issues, conveyance of price, bid or deal information, entry of contracts into system, information input and auditing for billing/invoicing, and ensuring proper logistics documentation is obtained/completed.

Minimum Qualifications & Skills
- Bachelor’s Degree required
- 2-5 years’ relevant experience required
- Advanced understanding of Excel and other Microsoft products
- Experience managing maintenance for large fleet of railcars, ensuring compliance with industry standards
- In-depth knowledge of railcar components and repair practices, such as overseeing repairs and billing, gained through practical experience in a shop or fleet management role
- Demonstrated ability to coordinate and optimize railcar maintenance schedules to minimize downtime and maximize fleet availability
