What are the responsibilities and job description for the Veterinary Assistant position at The Animal Hospital of Carrboro?
We are a busy small animal hospital in Carrboro in need of a veterinary assistant to join our well trained and energetic staff.
Experience is preferred but not mandatory to apply.
As a veterinary assistant you are part of a team that is key to providing high quality care for our clients and patients.
- Our veterinary assistants work as part of a team to interview clients about their pet's health, communicates that interview into written medical records and to both DVM staff and other team members.
- Our veterinary assistants assist both Registered Veterinary Technicians, DVMs and other assistants in collecting samples and preparing vaccines and treatments needed for each patient visit.
- Our veterinary assistants learn how to competently look at in house laboratory samples and report results, how to send appropriate required samples to outside diagnostic labs and how to enter the appropriate associated information into the patient's medical record.
- Our veterinary assistants learn how to take radiographs and safely work with I-131 (medical radiation).
- Our veterinary assistants clean and care for pets that are hospitalized and boarding. They also responsible for cleaning exam rooms, hospital work areas and other areas of the hospital as needed.
- Our veterinary assistants help prepare pets for surgical procedures and sedated medical procedures.
- Our veterinary assistants communicate with clients, other staff within out hospital, and other hospitals and clients in the area that are coming to us for special care and treatments.
Applicant must like people and have excellent communication skills. Applicant should be an intelligent, self-motivated, hard-working individual with a team player attitude (able to lead and to take direction from others) and willing to meet client needs. Animal handling experience is ideal. Science and math background is encouraged.
