The Applied Companies is assisting a valued client made up of self-starting, mission driven, thought leaders find the perfect Director of Development for their non-profit based in Reno (with offices also in Las Vegas).  They do meaningful work that impacts the community and saves lives through programs and services.  They practice what they preach, have fun while creatively problem solving and always find a way to do more to improve the lives of people through education, prevention and service.  Wearing many hats, they are a helpful, collaborative team that is more powerful together looking to inspire and continue to grow.  They offer camps, programs, seminars, workshops, electronic resources and printed materials to the group they serve and have been thriving for 30 years.

What the Director of Development will be responsible for:

  • Generating financial support including corporate donations, private donations, private foundations, special events, planned giving, individual gifts, marketing and other fundraising efforts. 
  • Building and maintaining donor relationships, stewardship, reporting and assisting in public relations efforts of the organization. 
  • Reporting to the Executive Director and Directly supervising the Grant, Special Events and Marketing departments.

What the Director of Development will do:

  • Directs fundraising efforts for the organization.
  • Oversees the personnel in grants, special events and marketing.
  • Builds and stewards partnerships and fundraising to form pipelines for financial growth.
  • Creates and implements a comprehensive growth development plan with the Executive Director.
  • Submits requests, secure fundraising and reports to all fundraising entities.
  • Researches, finds and secures new funding resources.
  • Maintains a database with a schedule of all contribution income, special events income, grant history-reports, submissions donor database files and correspondence.
  • Provides all stewardship of fundraising- tracking and acknowledgement.
  • Attends all Staff, Board, Development and Special Events meetings.
  • Tracks all donations and acknowledges financial and in-kind donors.
  • Reports on all development efforts to the Executive Director, Board, Community and Funders.
  • Supervises and assists with special event logistics.
  • Supervises and assists with marketing logistics.
  • Prepares and distributes Annual Report to all donors and community members.
  • Represents Organization at community events and meetings.
  • Ensures the highest level of donor relations.

What the Director of Development needs to have:

  • Proven success in non-profit development (5 years is desired).
  • Proven success in grant writing.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage and lead a department.
  • Ability to work independently, with a team and manage large committees.
  • Knowledge of all relevant computer software, Mac/ PC/ Office and grant software.
  • Superior writing skills and excellent ability to use statistical data and create narratives.
  • Proven track record of wide local contacts and asset development.
  • Minimum BA/BS from a four-year college or university is preferred.
