The Arc Erie County is currently seeking Behavior Intervention Technician for our residential program located in Erie County, NY. Why Achieve with The Arc Erie County? Becoming a Behavior Intervention Technician for us means:

  • Coordinates with the Behavior Intervention Specialist and/or Coordinator of Behavior Services in the development of behavior support plans and programs with an emphasis on proactive strategies for the management of individuals with challenging behaviors
  • Intervenes during individuals’ inappropriate and/ or potentially injurious behaviors in the least restrictive manner possible
  • Supervises daily activities of individuals, while providing assistance and training

This position is Full Time (40 hours weekly) Monday-Friday. No evenings, no weekends, and no holidays!

Qualified candidates will need:

Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology or related course of study and one year of experience working with the developmentally disabled population or similar population and two years of managing individuals with problem behaviors in a school or professional setting or combination thereof

OR

Associate’s Degree in Psychology or a related course of study and two years experience working with the developmentally disabled or similar population and two years of managing individuals with problem behaviors in a school or professional setting or combination thereof.

OR

High School Diploma and three years experience working with the developmentally disabled or similar population and at least three years managing individuals with problem behaviors in a school or professional setting or combination thereof.

PLUS

First Aid Certification, CPR, and Strategies for Crisis Intervention and Prevention-Revised training (SCIP) must be taken as provided by the agency within 90 days of hire and must be maintained.

Position Summary:
The Behavior Intervention Technician assists with the behavioral services provided to the individuals within the Residential, Day Habilitation, and Education Programs. Duties include assessment, development and monitoring of behavior support plans that have been developed by a Behavioral Intervention Specialist, Coordinator of Behavior Services and/or School Psychologist. Helps ensure continuity between programs that serve the same individual and actively works with individuals, families and agency staff as assigned. May provide direct supervision to Program individuals in all facets of daily living in behavior supports and to the direct care staff providing services.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP:
Dependent on the programs/individuals assigned, the Behavior Technician may receive direct supervision from the Coordinator of Behavior Services or a member of the School Administration team.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Supervises daily activities of individuals providing assistance and staff training on behavior related needs of individuals, based on Behavior Plans and behavior related assessments and documented behavior support plans.
  • Provide role modeling and training to staff on positive and successful behavior approaches.
  • Intervenes during individuals' inappropriate and/or potentially injurious behaviors in the least restrictive manner possible, while maintaining a safe environment. Coordinates development and monitors behavior modification programs as needed.
  • Coordinates with the Behavior Intervention Specialist and/or Coordinator of Behavior Services in the development of behavior support plans and programs with an emphasis on proactive strategies for the management of individuals with challenging behaviors.
  • Observes and provides assistance directly to individuals to role model behavior support plan for staff.
  • Monitors data collection and documentation to make necessary changes to the behavior plans on as needed basis.
  • Meets for regular supervision with Coordinator of Behavioral Services.
  • Participates in regular department, clinical, and treatment team meetings as assigned
  • Participates in ongoing training
  • Evaluates program data and progress.
  • Assures confidentiality of information about individuals.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Education Requirements:

  • Human Relations Skills:

The ability to communicate with individuals in a positive manner, demonstrate the ability to be a leader and serve as an appropriate role model to staff members. Receive supervision instruction in a positive manner. Adhere to and administer Agency’s policies, procedures, rules and regulations. Maintain a professional attitude and appearance at all times.

  • Equipment Operation:

The ability to operate office equipment, such as, computer, copier, fax machine, etc.
