What does a Behavior Intervention Specialist do?

As a member of the Clinical Services team at The Arc Lexington, the Behavior Intervention Specialist (BIS) will teach, inspire, and guide people with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities to live their best lives through the development of Positive Behavior Supports and supportive relationships. The BIS works closely with each person and their staff team to develop Support Plans, offering training and guidance to meet people's mental, emotional, and social health needs. The BIS provides functional analysis for behavioral challenges, then creates and facilitates training and guidance to people and their teams so that they can be as independent as possible and meet their own life goals. We are committed to offering our BIS team members ongoing opportunities to learn, grow professionally, and enhance their individualized skill sets.

Qualifications:

  • A Master's degree in a clinical or treatment field of psychology, social work, school psychology, applied psychology, or a related human services field
  • Experience working with people with disabilities
  • A valid NYS driver's license that meets Agency standards is required.
  • Use of own vehicle is required.
