POSITION: Education Advocate
Part time, 10 - 12 hours per week (hybrid)

Our Advocacy program provides supports consistent with The Arc's mission to advocate, educate, and provide services to empower individuals with disabilities and their families to enhance the quality of their lives. Our Education Advocates strive to maximize independence and support the development of self-determination skills. Advocacy is provided through refined communication skills and the ability to create meaningful, constructive relationships with all team members.
SUMMARY OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Participate, collaborate and/or implement The Arc of Chester County's 5-year Strategic Plan
- Complete all training and qualification requirements
- Offer guidance and resources on education rights, accommodations, and strategies to families
- Build and maintain relationships with school administrators, educators, service provides, and community organizations to foster collaboration and effective advocacy for students
- Work with families and school districts to ensure the student has their needs met in an appropriate manner.
- Assist families in preparing for transitions, ensuring that transition plans are appropriately developed and supported.
- Continuously stay informed on changes in special education law, policies, and educational trends to ensure that advocacy efforts are current and relevant
- Document all phone and written communication
- Contribute to and share resources with The Arc advocacy team
- Complete all paperwork and data entry accurately and in a timely manner
- Attend meetings as required and assigned
- Other duties as assigned
- POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university preferred but not essential.
- Relevant experience in the field of Education Advocacy, preferably working knowledge of special education laws and the special education process.
- Board Certified Special Education Advocate preferred or comparable training in Education Advocacy.
- Valid driver’s license and clear driving record with own reliable vehicle.
