Overview
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Direct Support Professional (DSP) to join our team. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in enhancing the quality of life for individuals with developmental disabilities. This position involves providing direct support and assistance in daily living activities, ensuring that residents maintain their dignity and independence while receiving the care they need.
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: Direct Support Professionals in the Recreation Department are responsible for supporting individuals during recreational and social activities planned by the Coordinator of Recreation for persons with developmental disabilities.
Responsibilities
· Listening to and supporting individuals during in-house and external programs.
· Foster relationships with The Arc of Hunterdon’s family members.
· Assist with the implementation of auxiliary services, such as transportation, facilities, etc., as it relates to the services provided by the department.
· Assistance with basic life skills, such as reading, writing, answering telephones.
· Promote and assist in suggesting healthy lifestyle choices for individuals we support.
· Assist in personal care.
· Support individuals to create and blossom meaningful lifelong relationships with peers and members of the community.
· Administer medications at scheduled times.
· Be able to support individuals on overnight group trips/vacations.
· Directly support and assist with vehicle safety when necessary.
· Assistance with crossing the streets and busy lots.
· Maintain prompt and proper documentation
· **Hours are flexible, but staff must be reliable and on time for shifts**
· Required to drive company vehicles including being comfortable or willing to learn driving 12 passenger vehicles.
· Other duties as assigned.
Experience
- Previous experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities is preferred.
- Knowledge of resident rights and direct support practices is essential.
- Ability to perform heavy lifting tasks safely and effectively.
- Experience in home community care settings is a plus.
- Certification in First Aid is desirable; training may be provided if not currently certified.
- Understanding of vital sign monitoring techniques is beneficial.

Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $18.00 - $18.50 per hour
Expected hours: 10 – 15 per week
