Direct Support Associate
Position Status: Part - Time
Location: Asheville, NC
Education Requirements: Candidate must have a High School Diploma, GED or equivalent.
Experience Requirements: Candidate must be a motivated team player, flexible, creative, dependable and reliable. Candidate must have related experience in providing direct supports but not preferred. Qualified applicants must be 18 years or older, have a current driver’s license, reliable transportation and are able to pass background check.
The Arc of NC is seeking a passionate, hardworking, self-motivated individual to support individuals with intellectual disabilities in the Asheville area. This is a part time position with a flexible schedule.
About the Role
As a Direct Support Associate, you will assist this individual in living a fulfilling, safe, and independent life. You will work to implement her Person-Centered Plan, provide emotional and practical support, and ensure her well-being while fostering meaningful connections in her community.
Key Responsibilities
- Willing to Learn and Engage in Continual Learning Regarding Prader-Willi
- Support Daily Needs: Assist with personal care, meal preparation, and monitoring food intake to address Prader-Willi-specific needs, including managing food security, building healthy habits, and providing constant supervision during meals to prevent overconsumption.
- Behavioral Support: Utilize strategies to help her manage behaviors linked to Prader-Willi, such as anxiety, food-seeking behaviors, and emotional dysregulation.
- Promote Community Integration: Encourage her participation in social, recreational, and community activities that align with her interests and strengths.
- Skill Development: Teach and reinforce life skills, coping mechanisms, and self-advocacy techniques tailored to her needs.
- Health and Safety: Maintain a safe and structured environment, proactively addressing potential risks and challenges specific to Prader-Willi syndrome.
- Documentation: Accurately complete daily notes, progress reports, and other required documentation.

Pay: $18.00 per hour
Expected hours: No more than 28 per week
Schedule:
- 4 hour shift
- 8 hour shift
- Monday to Friday
- Weekends as needed
Education:
