What are the responsibilities and job description for the Exceptional Student Education Teacher position at The Arc of Palm Beach County Inc?
Position Summary:
The ESE teacher is responsible for directly supervising and implementing a quality educational program for each student in their classroom. They will provide stimulating lessons to students in all academic areas as well as engage parents in their child’s learning. They will ensure compliance with all necessary licensures and state mandates regarding education, testing and assessments.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop and write Individual Education Plans (IEPs) along with school staff and therapists
- Participate in parental/student IEP meetings
- Develop and implement daily and weekly schedule at the school.
- Maintain close contact with parents concerning developments at school and encourage reinforcement of educational goals at home. This includes, but is not limited to successes, problems, accidents, reinforcements, etc. and notices to parents concerning holidays and other general information.
- Keep parents, therapists and other professionals informed of student’s individual progress and offer goals/activities/materials to facilitate child’s progress in global development.
- Conduct individual assessments for each child and develop an Individual Education Plan (IEP) in accordance with the therapists and family,
- Have complete awareness of:
- Student’s disabilities
- Medical issues
- Evaluations & Individual Education Plans (IEP), etc.
- Aid staff in daily programming skills.
- Manage fiscal and administrative needs to include petty cash, maintenance supplies, food, educational supplies, maintenance, and repair.
- Fill out attendance/transportation forms (children and staff) daily.
- Daily maintenance and awareness of the physical and safety needs of facility
- Conduct individual home visits as needed and update parent(s) on child’s progress, monthly home programs, and receive family input for the child’s programming needs.
- Attend all DOE, school district and Arc of Palm Beach County mandated trainings/meetings.
- Participate in staff and parent meetings/child study teams/evaluations, providing feedback regarding to the child’s academic and functional goals and recommend interventions for the child’s present and future needs.
- Provide consistent services.
- Maintain a wish list of materials and supplies.
- Work on special projects as directed by the Senior Director of Children and Family Services.
- Keep current with the latest innovations in the field of special education.
- Maintain the ability to meet the physical requirements of this position as related to duties at all times.

Education and Experience Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Special Education and current Florida Teacher’s Certification (ESE K-12).
- 1-3 years’ experience in Special Education and/or Elementary Education Class Room experience.
- Must possess and maintain a current Florida’s Driver’s License and state minimum requirements for auto insurance.
