Position Summary:

This position is directly responsible to the Director of Respite and Recreation.  With the guidance of the Director of Respite and Recreation (R&R), the recreation Coordinator is responsible for the implementation of internal/ external recreational activities, in order to foster a fun, dynamic and engaging recreation program that meets the needs of the participants engaged.

Driving and the transporting of clients is a requirement for this position.

 Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for planning and executing outdoor/indoor recreational activities that engage clients and community participants. 
  • Is able to plan, coordinate, and schedule all necessary components for the successful execution of activities.  This includes but is not limited to engaging vendors/ venues for external activities, purchasing needed supplies, coordinating with internal Program directors for internal activities, etc.
  • Will plan and lead outing and social events as part of recreation
  • Responsible for maintaining inventory of all marketing/activity supplies for the recreation program. 
  • Provides impute to the Director of R&R in relation to program needs, activity planning and engagement initiatives.
  • Responsible to accurate capturing participant information for monthly reporting.
  • Responsible for preparing and providing budgetary reports to the Director of R&R when planning activities and final balance report once activities are conducted.  
  • Responsible for ensuring the safety of all participants while engaged in any recreational activity.
  • With the guidance of the Director of R&R, responsible for the planning and execution of out of school time camps(winter/spring/summer).

 Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  •  Experience working with children/teens/adults in the community in settings such as summer camps, schools, childcare centers, etc.
  • Ease and comfort in working with individual with Intellectual/ Developmental disability. 
  • Highly organized.  Must be able to schedule, plan and implement.
  • Effective communication skills, verbally and written.  Must be able to communicate professionally with internal/external stakeholders.
  • Must have a personality that is engaging, positive and fun.
  • Familiar ongoing community events and activities.  
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of the job.
  • Must work with minimal supervision.

 Education and Experience Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • College preferred
  • Valid Driver's License
  • First aid- and CPR-certified preferred

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: 

  •  Regularly walk, sit, stand reach with hands and arms, and talk and hear.
  • Occasionally kneel, bend, crouch, and lift and/or carry office equipment, and boxes up to 20 pounds.
  • Occasional driving to project sites, which may include walking, climbing and/or bending to perform inspections and observations.
  • Primary working conditions are typical for an indoor/office environment requiring sitting for an extended period of time; frequent use of computers and standard office equipment.
  • Specific vision abilities include close vision, distant vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

 Other Requirements:

  •  Proficient in Microsoft Office Products and other software as required. 
  • Knowledge of recreation activities. 
  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing with all levels of staff members. 
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks with strong attention to detail and set priorities as required. 
  • Possess strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently. 
  • Ability to meet drug free workplace and other required background checks. 
  • Ability to drive to various recreation sites throughout the county.
