POSITION: Assistant Teacher - Full-Time
FLSA STATUS: Hourly/Non-exempt
LOCATION OF POSITION: Bill Reagan Children’s Center
REPORTS TO: Center Director
PURPOSE OF THE POSITION: The Full-Time Assistant Teacher is responsible for providing supportive quality care to children with and without disabilities, promoting safety, health, and well-being, independence, growth, and development for all participants.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be of 18 years of age.
- High School diploma or equivalent is preferred, as well as interest in early childhood education.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills required.
- Valid Iowa driver’s license and insured vehicle preferred.
JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: This Full-Time, non-exempt position is responsible for providing a high level of care and quality service through the following areas:
- Ensure child and family satisfaction by engaging the children in recreational and educational activities, providing positive reinforcement, providing role model appropriate behavior, exercising sound decision making skills, and creating a positive environment for the children.
- Maintain client health status by safely and thoroughly carrying out health procedures, such as tube feedings, toileting, monitoring and responding to seizure activity, first aid, medication administration, behavior modification, etc.
- Ability to work well within a team environment by providing support to Lead Teachers, while displaying a positive and enthusiastic attitude.
- Maximize each child’s potential by facilitating group & individual activities.
- Maintain child confidence and protect the agency by keeping information confidential.
- Respond calmly to health and emergency situations and report to the family and your supervisor.
- Maintain responsibilities as a mandatory reporter.
- Complete & submit documentation requirements timely. This includes Brightwheel communications to families, incident reports to director, and following guidelines set forth by Medicaid and Health and Human Services.
- Promote a positive experience with clients while adhering to Arc policies, procedures, and guidelines.
TRAINING REQUIRED:
- Ability to complete HHS required trainings within an established timeline.

WORK CONDITIONS
- Indoor and outdoor play spaces.
- Travel within local community.
- Entails spending time going from seated to standing position repeatedly.

- Must be able to stand, sit, walk, bend, and lift as needed.
- Ability to hold, lift, and carry small children
- Ability to move from seated to standing position repeatedly.
HOURS NEEDED: Monday-Friday 9:00am-5:30pm

Pay: $14.00 - $16.00 per hour
