- Conduct Comprehensive Evaluations: Interview patients and their families, review medical histories, and administer assessments to determine diagnoses and treatment needs.
- Develop and Manage Treatment Plans: Create tailored, evidence-based treatment plans, including psychotherapy and medication management.
- Prescribe & Monitor Medications: Manage psychiatric medications, monitor patient outcomes, and adjust prescriptions as needed.
- Collaborate with Care Teams: Work closely with physicians, psychologists, therapists, and support staff to ensure coordinated care.
- Support Staff Development: Provide guidance and education to clinical team members on psychopharmacology, behavioral health, and crisis management.
- Ensure Compliance & Documentation: Maintain accurate clinical records and ensure documentation meets agency and regulatory standards.
- Serve a Diverse Client Base: Provide outpatient psychiatric care to clients of The Arc as well as other agencies and community referrals.
- Bachelor's degree in Biology, Psychology, or a related field
- Graduation from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program
- Licensed to practice in the State of Missouri

Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner
Definition
Psychiatric nurse practitioners (PNP) evaluate, diagnose, and treat patients with mental, emotional, and behavioral disorders. They conduct thorough psychiatric evaluations, develop treatment plans, prescribe medication, and evaluate treatment results. The PNP will primarily provide outpatient treatment to individuals who receive services from The Arc of the Ozarks but will also provide services to individuals served by other agencies and community-based patients. The PNP may also perform contractual duties with other organizations as approved by the Executive Staff.
The PNP must have excellent reasoning, analytical and communication skills. A strong attention to detail, patience and perseverance are paramount, but it is also important the PNP be an empathetic, emotionally stable leader. The PNP must be able to make treatment recommendations that are data and research based. In addition, can rely on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. The PNP is an exempt, salaried position.

Attend at least two Arc-sponsored events such as fundraisers or networking events.
Clinical Skills and Expectations
Evaluates patients by interviewing patient, family, and other persons; conducting physical examinations; observing behaviors; reviewing medical history and related documents; selecting, administering, and interpreting psychological tests; ordering laboratory tests and evaluating results. Analyze data and results of assessments to diagnose patients.
Develops treatment plans by determining nature and extent of cognitive, emotional, developmental, social, and behavioral disorders; establishing treatment goals and methodologies; measure progress against the plan and adjust as needed.
Treats patients by utilizing psychotherapeutic methods and medications; discussing progress toward goals with patients; providing instructions; monitoring effect of medications; supervising staff provision of services.
Maintains interdisciplinary treatment by reviewing treatment plans and progress; consulting and collaborating with primary care physicians, mental health therapists, nurses, and other health care providers.
Improves staff competence by providing training and discussions regarding the interrelationship between psychosocial and physiological problems, psychotropic medications, crisis intervention, and related issues.
Maintains historical records by documenting symptoms, medications, and treatment events; writing summaries.
Updates job knowledge by participating in continuing medical educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations.
Prescribe and administer medications according to diagnosis
Monitor patients to determine efficacy and potential side effects of medications.
Provide crisis intervention as needed.
Complete all necessary clinical documentation in an accurate and timely manner.
Supervised internally by a psychiatrist with whom there is a Collaborative Practice Agreement established upon hire. Liability insurance and collaborating physician costs are both paid for by The Arc of the Ozarks.
Collaborate with a broader team of physicians, psychologists, nurses, and other professionals to assess and adjust treatment plans.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Ability to exercise good judgment and discretion.

Ability to work varied and flexible hours and to accept and adapt to changes in assignments, methods, policies, etc.
Considerable knowledge of modern psychological principles and practices and other research-based techniques as they apply to habilitation programming for those with intellectual disabilities and other developmental disabilities.
Considerable knowledge of the behavioral sciences and allied disciplines involved in the evaluation, care, and habilitation of persons with intellectual disabilities and other developmental disabilities.
Licensed to practice medicine in the State of Missouri.
Maintain current DEA registration.
Excellent knowledge and familiarity with current DSM-V TR criteria
Familiar with crisis assessment tools and techniques.
Strong working knowledge of general psychiatric principles and practices.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Minimum Experience and Training Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in biology, pre-med, physical sciences, psychology, or related field
Successful graduation from a qualified nurse practitioner program
Obtain and maintain licensure as required by the State of Missouri
Participation in further medical education and professional organization memberships are preferred.
