Transportation Assistant II Driver Split-Shift (6:00am - 9:00am; 1:30pm - 5:00pm)
DEFINITION
Under general supervision, monitors clients daily load times of the Transportation Department; operates a van to transport clients including both severely handicapped and non-severely handicapped in a safe and timely manner; performs related work as required.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Operates a van over a designated route according to an established time schedule; transports clients from home to I TEC and I TEC to home, and on special outings. Assists clients with disabilities in and out of the vehicle; physically maneuvers wheelchair clients up and down ramp or automatic lift; positions clients in their seats; fastens harnesses and belts; secure clients to wheelchairs/seats and wheelchairs to van; maintains discipline on the van; maintains effective communication with site staff, and family members.
EQUIPMENT AND RECORDS MAINTENANCE
Follows a set procedure to check the vans daily ensuring it is in proper working order including checking for proper maintenance and safety; including checking fluid and fuel levels and replacing as needed, reporting need for maintenance and repair work, and securing and locking vans; takes van to designated shop for maintenance and repairs; inventories specialized equipment and performs minor repairs as needed; prepares reports and maintains records including route books, check-out and mileage sheets.
HOURS
Monday through Friday with a split-shift comprising of the hours of 6:00am - 9:00am and 1:30pm - 5:00pm.
Qualifications
RESPONSIBILITIES
Care of vehicle
- Inspecting the vehicles daily.
Following a prescribed checklist in reviewing the vehicles operational and safety features.
- Reporting all repair needs or problems to the Transportation Coordinator Complete all fluid checks and maintain proper levels.
Driving Behavior
- Using prudent judgment in following instructions.
- Being able to recognize, create and follow logical sequences for pickinq un dropping off clients in a efficient manner.
- Observing all traffic laws.
- Ensure that all passengers wear seat belts. Following all safety regulations.
Record Keeping
- Maintaining accurate daily trip sheets.
- Completing all records daily.
- Following reporting procedures as prescribed.
Salary : $16
