Position Description:
The Stepping Stones Program at The Arc of Washington County provides services to families with children/young adults who have learning and developmental disabilities. Our DSPs provide intensive one-on-one support to a child/youth by assisting with daily activities, behavior management, social skills, and emotional support. DSPs assist in building independence, improving communication, and creating a safe, structured environment at home and in the community. They also help prevent and manage crises while encouraging positive behaviors and personal growth.
Position Responsibilities:
- Provide direct support to individuals with autism in various settings, including their home, Therapeutic Integration Site (TI), and community environments.
- Assist with daily living activities (ADLs) such as personal care, cooking, and cleaning.
- Assist with communication, socialization, and community integration activities.
- Implement behavior management strategies to promote positive interactions and learning while helping youth manage their behavior and teach them appropriate alternative behaviors.
- Observe and document person-supported behavior and progress, reporting any significant management changes.
- Collaborate with other staff members to ensure a safe and supportive atmosphere for all individuals.
This is a great opportunity for those looking for after-school/work and weekend work with students ages 8-21. Experience as a paraeducator, daycare worker, or in ABA is a plus!
- Part-time (20-29 hours per week) positions available, preferably bilingual.
- Schedules are typically M-F 2 p.m. – 7 p.m. with some weekend hours between 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Non-school days and summer hours are usually between 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. as well.
- Pay rate of $18.35 per hour.
Position Requirements:
- Entry level position however, at least one (1) year of experience supporting individuals with developmental disabilities or a similar population is preferred.
- Candidates must have prior experience in behavioral management, including implementing strategies to promote positive behaviors and effectively addressing challenging situations.
- Must demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain professional boundaries with youth.
- Must be 21 years of age or older.
- Must possess a high school diploma or GED.
- Possesses a valid U.S. driver's license for at least two (2) years, not including time on a learner’s permit AND a good driving record.
- Ability to attend our new hire training Monday – Friday 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM for the first two weeks and two days of employment.
- Is physically fit to lift and transfer at least 50 pounds.
- Ability to provide direct care and implement proper physical interventions to ensure the health and safety of the people served.
- The successful candidate will need to pass a comprehensive background check which includes a State and national criminal history check, fingerprinting, and pre-employment screenings including a drug screen and physical/ergonomic testing.
