JOB TITLE: Respite Specialist $500.00 sign on bonus
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: The staff member will provide respite to individuals with intellectual and other developmental disabilities to the extent required by their care plan or their Individual Service Plan (ISP). This respite service may take place in the community, a site-based program, or in their home.
Various scheduling options below: will be discussed more specifically in the interview.
Respite Home Care: Work 3 days then have 4 days off.
- Monday - Wednesday options
- Thursday - Saturday options
- Wednesday - Friday options
- Awake Over Night
- Saturday morning (per diem) - various programs that run on Saturday
mornings.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: The following is a summary of the essential functions of this job. The incumbent may perform other duties, both major and minor, that are not mentioned below, and essential functions may change from time to time.
1. Ensure proper supervision of individuals at all times. Must be willing to work days, evenings, weekends and overnight hours per program assignment. Staff may be assigned to other sites/programs as deemed necessary by supervisor.
2. Monitor and assist the individuals in all aspects of daily living as necessary (ex. Eating, toileting, bathing, dressing and ambulation) to whatever extent is required based on their individual needs, including lifting assistance as needed.
3. Staff will assure the performance of housekeeping and maintenance duties to provide a clean, neat, healthy and safe environment. Work cooperatively with other staff to complete necessary tasks. Specific responsibilities will vary depending on whether respite is at a program site, in the community, or in a family home.
4. Staff will be responsible for accurate and timely submission of documentation as assigned. (Ex. Daily notes attendance, care assignments, inventories, ledgers, logs)
5. Staff will advocate for the individuals’ rights and report any violation of their rights to their supervisor.
6. Staff will act as a positive role model for the individuals. They will ensure that a positive relationship with the individual’s families, other service providers, and members of the community is reinforced at all times.
7. Confidentiality: respect the individual’s right to privacy by appropriate use of written and verbal information, and to follow all agency and OMRDD guidelines regarding confidentiality. Ensures confidentially of issues as appropriate.
8. Plan and participate in integrated activities that are accessible and rewarding to the individuals in the program.
9. Maintain contact with the individuals, families/advocates as a means of evaluating how well the needs and interests of the individual are being met.
10. Staff will administer medications (site based only) per NY State and The Arc Oneida – Lewis Chapter policies and procedures.
11. Staff will be responsible for becoming familiar with the individuals Care Plan/Safeguards and provide any change of information and/or concerns to the program supervisor.
ACCEPTABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:
- High school diploma or GED with 1 year of documented experience working with the population we support.
- May require a valid NYS Drivers License with an approved copy of a driver’s abstract from the Department of Motor Vehicles
- May require the ability to obtain and maintain Medication Certification
- Requires the ability to obtain and maintain Workplace First Aid/CPR.
