Full Time; On-Call As Needed
Position Overview:
The Roman Catholic Parish of Middlebury and Southbury is seeking a Head Custodian to provide custodial and light maintenance services for Sacred Heart Church (SHC) and assist at Saint John of the Cross Church as needed. This full-time position will ensure the cleanliness, safety, and operational readiness of the parish buildings and grounds.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform custodial duties for the SHC facility, including vacuuming, dusting, mopping, and window washing.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization in hallways, bathrooms, meeting rooms, and kitchens.
- Clean worship spaces weekly, after weekend liturgies, and in preparation for upcoming services.
- Assist at Saint John of the Cross Church as necessary.
- Monitor HVAC systems and report issues; oversee mechanical equipment, lighting, and security systems.
- Set up facilities for parish events in coordination with the pastoral staff.
- Collaborate with the Buildings and Grounds Committee and Pastor on maintenance needs.
- Attend weekend events (e.g., wakes or funerals), providing post-event cleanup and reset.
- Respond to emergency situations (e.g., alarm issues).
- Assist with groundskeeping and snow removal.
- Organize and distribute weekend bulletins.
- Arrange seasonal prayer materials and parish calendars.
Qualifications:
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Licenses/Certifications: Valid driver’s license required; Maintenance certifications preferred.
- Experience: 3 years custodial and light maintenance
- Skills: Ability to work independently and as part of a team; Attention to cleanliness and safety in a church setting; Dependability and initiative; Basic understanding of building systems.
