Position Title : Fire Alarm Designer Location : Lafayette, LA Salary : $75,000 - $90,000 annually (with potential for higher based on experience and qualifications) Job Type : Full-Time Job Overview : We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Fire Alarm System Designer to join our team. This role involves the design, engineering, and installation of fire alarm systems in compliance with NFPA codes and project specifications. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in fire alarm system design, as well as experience with AutoCAD and other design software. This role will involve both independent work and collaboration with a team, including sales and project managers, to ensure high-quality design and project success. Key Responsibilities : Conduct on-site surveys to assess system requirements. Design fire alarm systems in accordance with NFPA codes and project specifications. Create floor plans, riser diagrams, schematics, system power calculations, and control panel layouts using AutoCAD. Review designs before submitting for approval, ensuring compliance with quality standards and code requirements. Work independently or with teams to complete design tasks efficiently and to the highest quality standards. Provide technical support and guidance to sales and project managers. Contribute to the development of a quality service program aimed at increasing efficiencies within the design and engineering department. Participate in project planning, prioritization, and organization with management. Assist in managing ongoing projects as necessary. Qualifications : High school diploma or equivalent (required). Degree from a technical school or college (preferred). Minimum 3-5 years of experience designing commercial fire detection systems. NICET Level II certification in Fire Alarm (required), with plans to obtain Level III certification. Strong working knowledge of fire protection codes and operations. Proficient in AutoCAD and other design software. Knowledge of NFPA 72, NFPA 70, NFPA 101, and the International Fire Code (IFC). Strong ability to read and interpret fire alarm project drawings and specifications. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Strong leadership, time management, and multi-tasking abilities. Ability to travel overnight as required. Technical knowledge of fire suppression and security design (a plus).
