The Architects Golf Club, located in Lopatcong, New Jersey is seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic assistant superintendent to join our golf course maintenance team. The assistant superintendent will collaborate closely with the superintendent and other members of the management staff on all aspects of maintenance operations.
The assistant superintendent’s role encompasses a range of responsibilities including but not limited to: the overall maintenance and care of the golf course including turf/grass management, irrigation, chemical and fertilizer applications, and landscaping. The assistant superintendent supervises personnel and participates in the maintenance of golf course tees, greens, fairways, roughs, bunkers and cart paths to ensure quality playing conditions. All supporting efforts in the overall maintenance of the property may also include tree work and the operation of small tools such as chainsaws, weed wackers and back pack blowers. The assistant superintendent must adhere to the golf maintenance budget and capital plans, and may serve in the superintendent’s capacity in his absence. The assistant superintendent reports to the superintendent and helps suggest improvements to the property and the manner in which those improvements are implemented.
The ideal candidate will be passionate about the turf/grass industry and golf course maintenance, work well within a team environment, have a great work ethic and positive attitude, have a sense of urgency, be a self-starter who is organized, reliable, and honest. He/she is one who can think through a problem and use common sense to resolve the issue, and effectively manage colleagues.
Position Responsibilities:
· Coordinate daily scheduling of crew duties.
· Perform supervisory duties to support the golf maintenance team.
· Supervise and assist in pesticide and fertilizer applications.
· Operate all equipment associated with golf maintenance.
· Identify problems and recommend solutions to the Superintendent.
· Maintain and inspect golf course and clubhouse grounds, landscaping, and maintenance equipment.
· Conduct and maintain inventory control practices.
· Assist in hiring maintenance personnel.
· Train employees in all aspects of golf course operations.
· Perform all other duties as assigned in the job description.
Other Requirements
· Degree from an accredited turf/grass management program or agronomy.
· Minimum 2-4 years experience in the turf/grass industry.
· Possess a strong attention to detail and knowledge base for the daily maintenance of a golf course.
· Strong communication skills.
· Ability to supervise and train employees.
· Sound water management skills/knowledge.
· Ability to work flexible schedule based on the course needs in all weather conditions.
· Experience in hand watering greens and golf course set up.
· Ability to identify pest threats on the golf course.
· Good organizational and record-keeping skills.
· Ability to manage the facility in the Superintendent's absence.
· Commitment to excellence.
· Ability to work weekends and holidays.
· Pesticide License.
· Valid driver's license.

Pay: $65,000.00 - $70,000.00 per year
