Who Are We:
The Arizona Pet Project is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) dedicated to keeping families together and saving pets by providing critical support services for pet families in vulnerable communities. We believe that pet companionship should be accessible to all, regardless of hardship, and we work to eliminate barriers to care and stabilization. Through innovative social services, we provide direct aid to families facing challenges such as housing instability, domestic violence, and financial hardship—ensuring that both people and their pets receive the support they need.
Who We Need:
We are seeking a driven and compassionate Social Worker to join our team as an Arizona Pet Project Social Worker. The ideal candidate is highly organized, outcome-driven, and thrives in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. This individual will be non-judgmental, resourceful, and adept at building relationships with diverse populations. Effective communication, problem-solving, and crisis intervention skills are essential. This position is a full-time, mobile field role, with work based out of partner locations across Phoenix.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct assessments to identify client needs, risks, and barriers through interviews, behavioral observation, and evidence-based tools.
- Develop and implement individualized intervention plans to address crises and stabilize families.
- Provide case management, counseling, and advocacy to families facing financial hardship, housing instability, domestic violence, and other challenges.
- Connect clients with critical community resources, including housing assistance, pet-friendly shelter options, veterinary care, pet food assistance, and financial aid.
- Promote pet-inclusive solutions in social service settings to prevent the unnecessary surrender of pets to shelters.
- Maintain accurate and prompt documentation of client interactions, interventions, and referrals.
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, including veterinarians, social service agencies, and shelters, to provide holistic support.
- Educate the public on agency programs, fundraising efforts, and community events.
- Provide guidance to volunteers supporting intervention services.
- Participate in program evaluation and development to improve services and client outcomes.
Skills & Attributes:
- Strong knowledge of human services, social work practices, and community resources.
- Experience in crisis intervention and stabilization preferred.
- Ability to develop creative, outside-the-box solutions for keeping pets and families together.
- Understanding of family dynamics, systems theory, and cultural competency in working with diverse populations.
- Self-starter with the ability to work independently in a mobile field setting.
- Bilingual English/Spanish strongly preferred.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in social work
- Three years of experience in human services, with at least one year of client assessment and case management experience.
- Social work licensure preferred (or interest in the path to obtaining licensure).
Compensation & Benefits:
- Salary: $50,000 - $54,000 per year ($24.04 - $26 per hour)
