Academic Advisor & Student Coach

The Art of Education University is looking for an Academic Advisor & Student Coach for its graduate education programs. The ideal candidate will be dedicated to supporting students in achieving academic success and reaching their higher education goals. Collaborate with adult learners to develop personalized plans and enhance their overall student experience through coursework, pathways, and degree programs. 

In this role, you will work closely with university faculty and enrollment staff to provide a high-quality student experience from the initial inquiry to graduation. As a choice architect, confidence builder, and trusted guide, you will offer students the support and direction they need throughout their higher education journey.

POSITION DETAILS

Structured as a remote, full-time, salaried position. This position will report to the Chair of Graduate Student Retention for advising work and the Dean of Enrollment Services to grow the continuing education student body. 

We have been a 100% remote company since the beginning!  This position is eligible to remote work from the following locations: USA.

The Details 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Maintain a portfolio of active degree-seeking and continuing education students.
• Collaborate with students and develop a unique plan to help them reach their goals for higher education, including individual courses, certificates, and degree programs. 
• Lead students through academic progress and key milestones to reach their goals through supportive and frequent touchpoints.
• Take ownership and initiative to meet or exceed individual and departmental goals.
• Support students through a variety of communication pathways (email, virtual meetings, phone calls, text, etc.).
• Maintain detailed, accurate records and provide individualized support for students facing academic, financial, or personal barriers.

• Additional projects as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

• High emotional intelligence, comfortable building relationships with new people, and active listening skills.
• Understanding of adult learners, distance education, and AOEU course offerings. 
• Highly effective verbal and written communication and strong attention to detail.
• Comfortable working across multiple digital platforms, including Google Suite. Experience with CRM software (Hubspot) and/or student information systems is a plus.
• Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple responsibilities
• Easily adaptable, reflective of the fast pace and growth of the university.
• Strong professional collaboration skills.

EXPERIENCE

• Academic advising, admissions, or sales experience preferred.
• K-12 art education experience preferred.
• Experience working remotely is a plus.

EDUCATION & CERTIFICATIONS

• A bachelor’s degree in fine arts, art education, or education is required. A master’s degree from an accredited institution is preferred
• AOEU alumni preferred

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

• Required daytime availability between 8-5 pm in your time zone with some flexibility for evening hours to meet the schedules of our students.
• Ability to travel 1-2x per quarter as needed
• Ability to view computer screens for significant periods of time. The Art of Education University is an online university; therefore, 95-98% of one’s time will be spent on or using technology.
• Ability to use a laptop keyboard with accuracy.
• Ability to hear at normal levels and through electronic devices such as laptops, earbuds, phones, and the like.

COMPENSATION

Compensation is commensurate with experience and market. We encourage you to discuss your compensation requirements early in the process. 

The Process

For most roles, the process is as follows: 

• Step 1: ~30-minute phone interview with hiring manager
• Step 2: Round 2 packet & Interview
  • Given that AOEU is 100% remote, this step is intended to see how you might work through some of the daily tasks, responsibilities, and challenges that could arise in this role. You will be given a prompt and be asked to complete an assignment which will then be used to guide a ~1 hour follow-up Zoom interview with 1-2 stakeholders. The intention is for you to get a sense of the role and give us an opportunity to see your skills in action. Your answers will not be used for any other purposes beyond evaluating your candidacy.
• Step 3: Follow-up interview
  • For certain roles, you may be asked to participate in an additional Zoom interview.
