Job Summary:
We are seeking an experienced RAN Engineer to support the deployment of our private LTE (pLTE) network. This role is highly specialized, requiring 5–10 years of experience in cellular hardware installation, configuration, and troubleshooting. The primary focus is the configuration and deployment of Nokia RAN components, including AirScale BTS (Base Station) and Nokia 7705 Cell Site Routers. The RAN Engineer will be responsible for ensuring that installations meet Xcel’s requirements and those of the hardware vendor while providing technical oversight and troubleshooting expertise.
Key Responsibilities:
Field Operations & Deployment
- Installation & Configuration: Configure and upload Nokia AirScale BTS and Nokia 7705 Cell Site Routers.
- Site Deployment: Oversee the physical deployment of cell sites, ensuring compliance with project specifications.
- Site Acceptance Testing: Validate cellular site functionality through Xcel’s network to the cellular core.
Technical Oversight & Troubleshooting
- Rack, Stack & Configure: Set up network configurations in a controlled lab environment at MDC, ensuring successful site installation.
- Drive Testing: Conduct cellular spectrum drive testing using tools like Anritsu Spectrum Analyzer to verify RF propagation.
- Disaster Recovery (DR) Testing: Perform DR testing, validate network performance, and submit results to RF engineers.
Inventory Management & Coordination
- Equipment Management: Maintain deployment models and manage OpCo-specific inventory.
- Collaboration: Work with multiple installation teams, including tower climbing and construction crews.
- Vendor Coordination: Assist with vendor access and ensure installations align with Xcel’s standards.
Business & Customer Support
- Work directly with internal business units to support the use of Xcel’s pLTE lab environment.
- Identify IT/infrastructure solutions to meet business needs, considering system impact and available alternatives.
- Manage technology assets by collaborating with Business Systems partners, vendors, and stakeholders.
Qualifications & Experience:
- 5–10 years of experience in cellular site deployment with companies like Verizon, T-Mobile, AT&T, Dish, or American Tower.
- Expertise in Nokia RAN solutions, including Nokia AirScale BTS and Nokia 7705 Cell Site Routers.
- Proficiency in RF propagation testing and drive testing using tools like Anritsu Spectrum Analyzer.
- Strong understanding of cell site components and ability to manage inventory and site requirements.
- Experience coordinating with installation crews, RF engineers, and project managers.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required.
