The Role
TAG is seeking to hire an associate focused on the technology sector and digital policy issues in the Indo-Pacific to support TAG’s Digital Practice, whose clients include some of the world’s most important technology companies. The Digital Policy Associate will work across country- and region-focused teams to help to analyze a wide array of policy and commercial issues related to the digital ecosystem. An ideal candidate will bring a passion for analyzing critical issues at the intersection of technology and public policy, including but not limited to cross-border data flows and data localization; intellectual property protections, taxation, and cross-border e-commerce for digital economic growth; global AI governance, online safety, national security, and cybersecurity; digital payments and cryptocurrencies; and data privacy, among others.
The Digital Policy Associate will work closely with the Co-Chairs and other senior colleagues in TAG’s Digital Practice, but may also contribute to TAG’s other country practices on specific regulatory developments.
Candidates should have a master’s degree in international relations, political science, economics, Asian studies, or a related field. Candidates with a bachelor’s degree only but significant relevant work experience will also be considered. The ideal candidate commands a strong understanding of critical digital economy and technology issues, business climates, and political dynamics across Asian markets. Experience writing for publication as a journalist, think tank scholar, academic, and/or in government service is also highly valued.

For this role, TAG offers a salary of $68,000-$92,000 per year, with eligibility for a discretionary end of year bonus.

Responsibilities Include :
- Design and execute high-value-add deliverables for clients related to regional digital policy issues, including memos, regular reports, presentations, and other products;
- Collaborate across practices and client teams to develop innovative market entry and expansion strategies, informed by a deep understanding of digital policy issues in the Indo-Pacific region;
- Contribute to briefings and other bespoke servicing in support of client equities across the region;
- Contribute original research and thought leadership on issues related to the digital economy across the Indo-Pacific region, including the markets of China, Australia, Singapore, Japan, and others;
- Provide logistical support for clients and TAG leadership related to engagements in Washington, D.C. and client sites in other domestic or international locations.
Required Experience and Qualifications :
- 2-4 years of relevant work experience;
- Advanced degree (e.g., MA, MBA) or equivalent academic/practical experience related to digital, commercial, and economic policy issues in Asia;
- Exceptional English writing, research, and editorial skills, ideally with a background in writing for publication as a journalist, think tank scholar, academic, and/or in government service;
- Excellent oral communication skills and demonstrated ability to contribute original commentary on digital policy trends in Asia;
- Deep knowledge of critical digital economy and technology policy issues, and a demonstrated ability to communicate related insights to a variety of audiences, including a business audience;
- Understanding of the U.S. policymaking process, including familiarity with U.S. executive branch policymaking related to trade and technology, and the U.S. legislative process;
- Strong grasp of business strategy and commercial trends, especially in the Indo-Pacific region.
Desired Qualifications :
- Working proficiency in an Indo-Pacific foreign language;
- On-the-ground work experience in Asia;
- Excellent graphic design and data visualization skills to support client deliverables;
- Experience in government relations or comparable experience demonstrating the ability to integrate public policy with corporate strategy.
