The Asia Group (TAG) is a leading strategic and capital advisory firm that positions clients – ranging from Fortune 100 multinationals to innovative startups – for success in established and emerging markets across the Asia-Pacific region. You will join a fast-paced, innovative team that operates at the forefront of public policy and business across the Asia-Pacific. The Senior Associate will be an integral member of TAG’s Defense and National Security practice, led by the firm’s President, and will specialize in defense technology and innovation. A competitive candidate will have a strong foundation and experience in security, military, and defense trends in the Indo-Pacific region, including an understanding of systems, capabilities, and defense industrial landscape, as well as a command of U.S. national security strategy, policy, and decision-making.
Responsibilities
- Support the Defense and National Security Practice in developing and implementing its defense technology and innovation initiative.
Conduct timely and meticulous market, industry, political, and policy research and analysis focused on defense and dual-use technology innovation, to include market trends, leading and emerging sector stakeholders, and the intersection of emerging technology and national security policymaking, among other items.
Support TAG business development by conducting targeted research and due diligence on defense technology firms, government institutions, and private equity and venture capital funds.Lead logistical and substantive support for a series of forums focused on defense innovation, to include developing event agendas, managing event logistics, compiling briefing materials, and engaging in stakeholder outreach, among other duties.Support senior staff in conceiving, developing, and seizing thought leadership opportunities on defense technology and innovation, with an emphasis on the Indo-Pacific region.Draft high-quality executive memos, PowerPoint presentations, briefing materials, and other written products for clients, and external and internal audiences, often within a short period.Work closely with the broader TAG team to develop quality cross-team deliverables.Support senior advisors and senior staff engagement with key stakeholders, including clients, business development targets, government officials, and others.Work closely with members of other TAG practices to support the defense technology and innovation initiative.Support the Defense team in servicing global clients through execution of high-value-added deliverables, including tasks described in sub-bullets 4 through 6.Perform other special projects or duties as assigned according to business needs.Required experience
Bachelor’s degree in relevant areas, including national security policy, science and technology policy, engineering, information technology, and related fields.4-7 years of relevant work experience in the defense or technology sectors, whether in government, startups, or private equity and venture capital firms.Understanding of the U.S. defense innovation and acquisition ecosystem, to include defense acquisition processes, public-private partnerships, and key stakeholders in emerging technology sectors.Understanding of emerging defense technologies, including artificial intelligence and autonomy, hypersonics, biotechnology, cybersecurity, and space, among others.Outstanding research, analytical, and writing skills.Ability to excel in a fast-paced environment with multiple tight deadlines.Strong attention to detail.Demonstrated team player with a positive and professional attitude.Eager for professional development and adept and open to gaining new skills and expertise.Ability to take initiative and proactively contribute to the team and TAG’s growth.Preferred Qualifications
Experience in event planning, logistics, and operations.Experience engaging and managing relationships with C-Suite executives and other high-impact stakeholders.Regional policy experience focused on Australia and AUKUS Pillars 1 and 2.Master’s degree in technology policy, national security, or related field.Candidates must be eligible to work in the United States and are expected to work in-person at the TAG DC office five days per week. For this role, TAG offers a salary of $78,000-$105,000 per year, based on experience.
