The Aspen Times has a high bar for arts and entertainment coverage. Yes, the A&E reporter gets to attend amazing events on a regular basis. The challenge comes in writing about these happenings with curiosity and respect, while also sharing insights into the people behind the art in a way that resonates with our readers. Whether it’s an Andy Warhol takeover of the Aspen Art Museum or the annual school district art show, Renée Fleming performing at the Aspen Music Festival, Deadmua5 at the Belly Up or local thespians giving their all during a performance of Stephen Sondheim’s Company at the Wheeler Opera House, art and culture are two of the factors that elevate local life from mountain town to world class. Food, music, theater, film, dance, painting, performance art, comedy, literature, all of these and more will be part of your beat.

This position is responsible for covering the arts and entertainment beat for the daily newspaper and weekend section. This position also contributes to our magazine and special section publications.

Responsibilities include (but are not limited to) :

  • Writing four to eight weekly stories about arts and entertainment for the daily newspaper.
  • Proofreading, editing and writing headlines.
  • Reviewing stories for clarity, accuracy, readability and content.
  • Checking facts through meticulous research.
  • Contributing to content plans for all magazines.
  • Participating in community events and company functions.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications :

  • College degree in journalism, communications, English or related field.
  • Prior magazine or newspaper experience.
  • Excellent people and leadership skills.
  • Ability to work on deadline and handle pressure.
  • Outstanding organization and communication skills.
  • Pay is $60,000 – $67,000 per year.
