Overview

The RN-NC Medical Surgical role is a pivotal component of patient care within the healthcare system. Registered Nurses in this position serve as vital link between patients and interdisciplinary healthcare teams. They are key to delivering high-quality care, ensuring patient safety, and improving health outcomes in a fast-paced environment. RNs in the Medical Surgical unit are responsible for caring for patients with a diverse range of medical conditions, from post-operative recovery to chronic disease management. This role requires a thorough understanding of medical-surgical nursing principles, as well as the ability to perform clinical assessments, manage patient care plans, and educate patients and their families about health management. The RN-NC position combines clinical expertise with compassionate patient engagement, making it essential for promoting recovery and maintaining the well-being of patients undergoing medical treatment in varied settings.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform comprehensive assessments of patients' health status.
  • Develop and implement personalized care plans based on patient needs.
  • Administer medications and monitor patient responses.
  • Coordinate with healthcare teams to ensure cohesive patient care.
  • Assist with surgeries, if required, under the guidance of medical professionals.
  • Educate patients and families on disease processes and self-care strategies.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of patient care.
  • Monitor vital signs and report any significant changes.
  • Provide emotional support and counseling to patients and families.
  • Adhere to infection control and safety protocols at all times.
  • Participate in quality assurance and improvement initiatives.
  • Supervise and mentor junior nursing staff and nursing students.
  • Respond effectively to medical emergencies as they arise.
  • Manage the care of multiple patients in the unit efficiently.
  • Maintain equipment and a safe environment for patients.

Required Qualifications

Minimum of 1 year of RN experience required (will accept LTAC, LTC, etc candidates)

  • Current RN license in the relevant state.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
  • Minimum of 1 years of experience in a medical-surgical department.
  • CERTIFICATION: BLS and ACLS certifications required.
  • Strong knowledge of medical-surgical nursing standards and practices.
  • Ability to work effectively in a high-stress environment.
  • Proficiency in using electronic health records (EHR) systems.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership and problem-solving abilities.
  • Commitment to continuous professional development.
  • Ability to educate and empower patients on health management.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to collaborate with a diverse healthcare team.
  • Understanding of ethical issues in patient care.
  • Physical stamina for extended shifts and patient lifting.
  • Willingness to work flexible shifts, including weekends and holidays.
