What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Coach - Olympic Weightlifting position at The Austin Barbell Club?
Austin’s largest Olympic Weightlifting Club is currently seeking a part-time coach to add to our team of professionals. We are looking for responsible, energetic individuals who have a passion for helping others, are accountable self-starters, lead without ego and work well within a team environment.
All Incoming coaches will be required to complete our mentorship as an Assistant Coach (paid position) before promotion to an Austin Barbell Team Coach. Initial availability of 4-8 hours per week. Exceptional team members will have the opportunity to increase their hours based on growth. Austin Barbell offers a competitive pay rate and quarterly bonus opportunities.
Location(s): St Elmo (South Austin)
Duties include:
- Ability to teach, communicate and work with beginners
- Coaching Group Training Classes (either alongside another team member or solo)
- Interacting with members/athletes (i.e.: accountability, check-ins, goals, etc.)
- General cleaning and sanitizing of spaces, surfaces, and equipment
- Managing prospects and onboarding new members
- Minor sales and membership management tasks
- Attend weekly staff meetings
- Availability to coach morning sessions
Job Requirements:
- Enthusiastic and positive demeanor
- Able to instruct training sessions (both personal and group)
- Minimum USA Weightlifting Sports Performance Coach (L1), SafeSport, USAW Background Check, CPR/AED Certified
- Ability to autonomously manage a roster of athletes of all skill backgrounds
- Comfortable using technical platforms (iPad, computers, gym software, Google Sheets etc.)
- Local to the Austin area, able to travel between North and South locations
- Current member of USA Weightlifting in good standing
Preferred Experience:
- Experience in the sport of Weightlifting as either athlete or coach (or both)
- Coaching group sessions, Personal Training/Training Individuals
- Possess a basic understanding of nutrition and healthy living practices
- Ability to modify exercises based on individual needs
- Competed in the Sport of Olympic Weightlifting
- Knowledge of training program design
- Sales and follow-ups
