Design Project Manager (DPM) provides overall management of one or more specific engineering & design efforts to ensure that the client receives a project designed and engineered within the scope of the contracts to meet their needs on time and within budgets. Also, coordinates directly with project management, construction leadership team, either Austin’s or others’, to ensure constructability and support of construction operations. The DPM is responsible for the successful delivery of the engineering scope of work on a project, within the terms of the contract, on time, on budget and in service to the client and the business objectives of the project. Also, at times, acts as the liaison between the client and Austin.

Design Project Manager (DPM) provides overall management of one or more specific engineering & design efforts to ensure that the client receives a project designed and engineered within the scope of the contracts to meet their needs on time and within budgets. Requirements
- Minimum Bachelor’s degree in engineering, architecture or related field with 10 years of experience.
- Three or more years of experience in multi-discipline project team leadership preferred.
- Field construction experience is a plus.
- Professional Registration is preferred.
- Prior job assignments typically include supervisory discipline engineer, discipline project lead, project engineering or project architect responsibilities.

- Participates in project estimating and proposal preparation to the extent required (work effort / hours estimation).
- Enters all information for engineering meeting minutes, change notifications, and engineering change orders.
- Reviews assigned project after awarded to help communicate project scope, develop and review with Project Team the Project Execution Plan for the design and engineering scope of work coordinates engineering pull planning, and helps to develop schedules, and budgets.
- Regularly works to support the design-build project manager and sometimes in direct contact with the client representative to obtain more detailed information required to assure that engineering decisions on project/implementation meet client operational needs and are in line with the contractual scope of work.
- Coordinates overall engineering effort across disciplines, reviews technical design conditions and makes recommendations to the responsible engineer related to design improvement concepts, manages work effort ensuring the highest distribution of hours and drives the project team. On a design-build project works closely with the PM and construction to coordinate efforts of the project team.
- Documents all changes in engineering scope, ensures that the General Manager, project manager (or client) understands the consequent changes in cost and time and that the project manager (or client) authorizes the changes, then coordinates all changes between the various departments as well as the field.
- Holds regularly scheduled (usually weekly) project status check in meetings to ensure that project is progressing, and that the project team is coordinated. Works with Manager of Engineering & Design to assemble and plan the assignment of the appropriate resources to a project effort.
- Provides input to the Manager of Engineering and Design or the discipline chief on the performance of individuals on their project teams.
