The Backyard Bar in Apex is looking for a Lead Bartender to step into a key role—where you’ll lead by example, keep operations clean and tight, and be part of shaping the future of one of the area's busiest and most beloved cocktail spots.
What You’ll Be Doing:
This is not just a bartending gig—this is a leadership position. The Lead Bartender is expected to:
Behind the Bar
- Work 3–4 bartending shifts per week, including our busiest nights (typically Friday, Saturday, and one or two weekday shifts)
- Lead the bar team during service—set the tone, maintain a fast and consistent pace, and ensure every guest receives quality drinks and a great experience
- Jump in where needed—whether that’s shaking cocktails, helping a teammate in the weeds, or stepping onto the floor to clear glasses or address a guest
- Act as the shift lead—make confident decisions, manage guest issues professionally, and handle comps or adjustments on the spot
- Ensure accuracy at the register—every check must be rung in correctly, every comp accounted for, and no drinks go untracked
- Uphold pour standards—especially for mid- and top-shelf spirits, all drinks must be jiggered for consistency, cost control, and guest experience
- Keep a sharp eye on bar cleanliness and organization during and after shifts—everything from clean surfaces to stocked garnish trays and well-managed trash
Cleanliness & Setup
- Wipe down all outdoor tables and chairs before service
- Pick up used glasses, cups, napkins, and trash outside throughout the night
- Blow leaves and debris off the patio regularly
- Set up/organize tables and chairs with consistent layout and spacing
- Monitor indoor/ outside ambiance—lights, heaters, sound, fans, umbrellas, and overall vibe
- Ensure inside and outside areas are guest-ready at all times
Admin & Leadership
- Manage the bar schedule and handle shift coverage
- Oversee inventory counts, manage par levels, and handle order placement
- Pick up weekly product order deliveries during off hours
- Help train and guide newer staff
- Maintain consistency in drink quality, cleanliness, and team standards
- Create seasonal drink menus
✅ What We’re Looking For:
- 7 years bartending experience, with at least 3 years in a leadership or supervisory role
- Deep knowledge of cocktails, bar flow, and hospitality
- Comfortable running a shift, making decisions, and supporting staff
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Takes pride in a clean, well-run space—inside and out
- Team-oriented but confident taking charge
Compensation:
- Base pay depending on experience
- With tips, earnings regularly exceed $40/hr on an average
- ~32 hours per week (includes bar shifts admin hours)
