What are the responsibilities and job description for the Fabrication Material Handler position at The Baker Company?
The Fabrication Material Handler is responsible for moving raw material, purchased parts, and subassemblies to and from the points of use to ensure manufacturing continuity. This position interacts with a variety of manufacturing, purchasing, planning, and engineering personnel, and will be in nearly continuous motion throughout the plant, and as such will need to demonstrate excellent judgment and ability to work independently, with minimal supervision.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Receive incoming materials, putting away product in a timely manner.
- 5S/TPM
- Accurately perform transactions in the MRP system to maintain inventory accuracy
- Pull materials from inventory as needed during kitting operation, check completeness of kit against the Part Picture list, cart Part Picture checklist, and deliver kit to the point of use, FIFO lane.
- Maintain, promote, and improve and orderly process of tracking and moving inventory through the Value Stream
- Provide timely feedback to Supervisor about discrepancies in product documentation or order configuration
- Use FIFO system to set-up and changeover Fabrication machines.
- Reduce machine downtime with timely and efficient material changeovers
- Handles material carefully as to not damage or scratch
- Pull spare part orders for customer fulfillment
- Process Work Orders built by manufacturing
- Identify, label, and pull parts to move to the correct manufacturing production cell
- Utilize power equipment, to include pallet jacks, hand trucks, carts, forklifts, etc.
- Keep accurate counts and maintain accuracy through cycle counting
- Prepare for and participate in annual physical inventory
- Track shortages and catch up when missing parts produced
- Maintain a safe, clean, and orderly work area.
- Make every effort to focus on doing-it-right to make sure the customer is happy or satisfied with our units.
- Provide value to our customers by using Lean tools and concepts to identify and eliminate waste in all forms (scrap/rework, transportation, motion, waiting, inventory, over production, over processing, and under-utilization of people). Uses systemic thinking by seeing processes from end to end and works to challenge the status quo to eliminate the root cause of problems. Is involved in individual and/or team activities that involve using Lean tools and concepts to improve the flow of information and material.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Must be able to lift 10-20 lbs frequently, and up to 50 lbs periodically.
- Must be able to assist others in 2 person lifting, requirements up to 100 lbs occasionally
- Must be able stand, stoop, crawl, climb or bend for up to 8 hours
- Repeated lifting, moving, bending, pushing, pulling, reaching, and stretching.
- Continuous standing/walking.
