The Baltimore Sun, an award-winning news organization, seeks a talented and dedicated Editorial Page Editor to lead the editorial board. This role will support the newsroom’s mission by assigning, editing and writing opinion pieces and helping to identify a diverse set of contributors for our opinion pages. The ideal candidate will have at least five years experience editing and writing for a professional publication.
Essential Functions
- Led The Baltimore Sun's editorial board, guiding editorial direction and shaping content strategy.
- Assign, edit, and write compelling opinion pieces on a variety of topics, ensuring clear, and engaging, messaging.
- Identify diverse contributors, fostering a wide range of perspectives for the opinion pages across various properties.
- Utilize social media, SEO strategies, and headline writing to enhance the visibility and engagement of editorial content.
- Supervise the editorial team members, providing mentorship and editorial guidance.
- Drive the development of editorial content for multiple publications under The Sun’s brand, aligning with the overall goals and voice of the newsroom.
Education and Experience Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience required
- Minimum 5 years of professional reporting experience (news publication and/or daily or weekly journalism experience strongly preferred)
- Must be able and willing to work irregular hours and holidays as necessary
- Must be familiar with computers and software, including Internet software
- Excellent command of verbal and written English
Salary Range: $85,000 - $100,000
Individual compensation may vary from the target range based on several factors such as experience, internal pay equity, and other relevant business considerations.
