BASF's attorney program—called The Barristers Club—has an annual membership of more than 3,000 and is comprised of attorneys in their first ten years of practice, as well as law students. This club is free to BASF members.
You will be an integral member of the BASF organization and responsible for managing the Barristers Club programs to ensure that its goals and purposes are met. You will serve as the staff liaison for the Barristers Board of Directors, create yearly budgets, and create compelling programs that resonate with new attorneys and drive their engagement with BASF. As an individual contributor with no direct reports, you will have the support of several internal departments such as the events, marketing, communications and membership teams.

In Addition, You Will
- Handle policy development, implementation and administration, sponsorships and budget for the department.
- Set and execute on goals for the Barristers Club (financials, initiatives, projects, etc.); ensure and manage compliance with annual budget.
- Plan and oversee substantive Continuing Legal Education (CLE) programs and events with the assistance of volunteers from within the BASF membership.
- Serve as liaison to and provide guidance and support to all Barristers Club Board Members, Committee and Section Chairs and Vice Chairs.
- Proactively engage with the Membership Director to develop, advise, consult and plan membership and section/ committee recruitment and retention programs directed at the law student and new attorney segments, while focusing on increasing diversity of both membership and practice areas and types.
- Develop content for and collaborate with other departments to publish monthly newsletters and other publications for membership, featuring MCLE programs, club events and club news.
- Oversee annual election process for Barristers Board of Directors.
- Collaborate with the Board to devise and implement Barristers' programs and policies.
- Assist Board officers and president to plan, create agenda for and coordinate Barristers Board and Executive Committee meetings. Attend and document minutes from the Barristers Board meetings, and provide staff support and guidance where appropriate.
- Manage relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Ensure strong collaboration between Barristers Club and BASF board, sections, committees and membership through open communication and joint efforts where appropriate, and between the Justice & Diversity Center (JDC) board and to drive volunteer recruitment and opportunities for Barristers Club members.
- Attend committee meetings and functions, providing direction and support where appropriate.
- Plan and oversee all aspects of several high visibility events, including the annual Judges Reception, annual Open House, Annual Meeting, Diversity Awards and Conference, board and section leader orientation meeting and other Barrister Club special events.
- Build effective working relationships and collaborate with other BASF colleagues to ensure visibility and success of Barristers programs.
- B.S. or B.A. degree in a related discipline is required
- J.D is preferred but not required
- Minimum of three (3) years of hands-on experience in program, volunteer or project management
- Experience in professional development and education programs are highly desired
- Experience in the legal field and/or interacting with legal professionals.
- Strong social and networking skills and ability to manage volunteers, Association members and members of the public in a professional and collegial manner
- Ability to simultaneously manage multiple components of a project from beginning to end, including setting and meeting deadlines; ability to multi-task in fast paced environment
- Ability to interpret and report out on department financial results and develop a plan to change course as needed to maximize financial results
- Ability to identify and cultivate sponsor relationships to support program and events
- Entrepreneurial spirit, creativity, and long-term vision conducive to continually growing program results and engagement.
