Position Overview
The Barber Vintage Motorsports Museum, a renowned 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to preserving and celebrating the history of motorcycles and motorsports, is seeking an experienced Motorcycle Maintenance Technician Supervisor. This individual will oversee the museum’s motorcycle maintenance operations, supervise a team of mechanics, and ensure the collection is maintained to the highest standards of preservation, safety, and functionality.
Key Responsibilities
Team Leadership:
- Supervise, mentor, and manage a team of motorcycle mechanics, fostering a collaborative and efficient work environment.
- Assign tasks, set priorities, and ensure team members meet deadlines and quality standards.
- Conduct performance evaluations and provide opportunities for professional development.
Motorcycle Maintenance & Restoration:
- Oversee the inspection, maintenance, restoration, and repair of motorcycles in the museum’s extensive collection.
- Develop and implement maintenance schedules to ensure the preservation and functionality of motorcycles.
- Ensure all restoration and repair work adheres to historical accuracy and museum-quality standards.
Strategic Planning & Reporting:
- Collaborate with the Executive Director to establish maintenance priorities and align activities with the museum’s mission.
- Develop and manage budgets for the maintenance department, including tools, parts, and labor.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance and restoration work for each motorcycle.
Exhibition Support:
- Work with curators and exhibition teams to prepare motorcycles for display, events, or loan to other institutions.
- Ensure motorcycles are safe and operable for demonstrations, parades, or special exhibitions.
Safety & Compliance:
- Ensure compliance with OSHA and other safety regulations in the maintenance facility.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and well-equipped workshop.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in motorcycle maintenance, restoration, or a related field.
- Proven leadership or supervisory experience in a workshop or museum setting.
- In-depth knowledge of vintage and modern motorcycle mechanics, systems, and restoration techniques.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities.
- Excellent communication and team-building abilities.
- Familiarity with museum standards for artifact care and handling is a plus.
- Passion for motorcycles and motorsports history.
Education:
- Technical certification or degree in motorcycle mechanics or a related field is required. Equivalent professional experience will be considered.
