This position works at one of two residential camps for children with type 1 diabetes. This position is forward-facing, providing excellent service to parents and support to our staff (in particular, international staff members). This position is full-time but seasonal. Candidates usually live at camp like other seasonal staff members, though local applicants will be considered.

The Barton Center for Diabetes Education, Inc. is a small business in Charlton, MA. We are professional, agile, collaborative and our goal is to Camp Joslin provides boys and young men with an exciting combination of camping, fun, diabetes education, support, and recreation! The daily schedule is filled with sports activities, arts and crafts, swimming, kayaking, canoeing, fishing, Hike to Heck (a mudhole), campfires, an occasional outdoor overnight, dances with the girls from Clara Barton Camp, diabetes education, hiking, occasional field trips, and so much more. Activities vary from week to week. Campers are encouraged to participate in both active and less active sports/programs, so they have a well-rounded experience. Diabetes education is integral to the camp program and includes formal and fun education sessions and active use of “teachable moments” by staff. Camp Joslin is located on a beautiful wooded setting which includes a 20-acre pond, pavilion, 10 camper cabins, health care center, 2 recreation lodges, hiking trails, athletic fields, weight/conditioning room, and a dining hall. Camp Joslin is staffed by a 24-hour health care team that includes resident physicians, nurses, and nutritionists. Camp Joslin maintains a staff to camper ratio which meets or exceeds typical camp requirements. Endocrinologists, pediatricians, pediatric nurses, psychologists, dietitians, and a group of dedicated volunteers assist the camp team. Many campers have described their time at Camp Joslin as the most fun they’ve ever had while also learning to live more effectively with diabetes..

Job Overview: We are currently seeking enthusiastic individuals to join our team as Camp Leadership (Seasonal) Positions. As a Camp Leader, you will play a vital role in creating a fun and engaging environment for campers. This is a seasonal position with opportunities for growth and development. Responsibilities: - Plan and implement age-appropriate activities and programs for campers - Supervise and ensure the safety of campers at all times - Provide guidance and support to campers in their personal and social development - Assist with daily camp operations, including meal times, transportation, and scheduling - Collaborate with other camp staff to create a positive and inclusive camp experience - Maintain accurate records of camper attendance, incidents, and behavior Requirements: - Special education or early childhood education background is preferred - First aid certification is required - Experience working with students or children in a group setting - Strong classroom management skills - Ability to coach and educate campers in various sports activities - Knowledge of behavior management techniques - Familiarity with Christian counseling principles (for faith-based camps) - Excellent communication and interpersonal skills - Ability to work well in a team environment Please note that all positions at our camp are paid, including seasonal positions.
