Community Engagement Associate
Reports to: Community Engagement Manager
Classification: Exempt, Full-Time
Schedule: Tuesday-Saturday (with variations during high season and events)
Position Summary:
The Community Engagement Associate will play a critical role in executing the outreach initiatives and workshops established by the Community Engagement Manager. As an integral member of the community engagement team, the Associate will implement educational programming, coordinate events, and actively connect with the community to foster a welcoming atmosphere at The Bascom. This position requires an enthusiastic individual with strong communication skills who can engage various audiences in meaningful ways while providing outstanding customer service.
Responsibilities:
Outreach & Implementation of Education Programming
- Develop, initiate, and lead new and innovative classes and workshops that inspire community participation in the arts.
- Provide detailed descriptions of educational offerings to the Community Engagement Manager for promotional materials and outreach strategies.
- Execute the annual plan of educational offerings, ensuring workshops align with community interests and The Bascom’s mission.
- Assist in the management of registration process for classes and workshops, providing timely information and assistance to participants to ensure smooth operational flow.
- Foster partnerships with schools, local businesses, and community organizations to promote educational opportunities and enhance community relations.
- Support the training and oversight of volunteers and interns involved in community outreach efforts and events.
Teaching & Instruction
· Instruct multiple classes and workshops per week, providing engaging and hands-on educational experiences for participants.
· Identify and track materials and equipment necessary for the delivery of curriculum, ensuring that all resources are adequately supplied and maintained.
· Provide demonstrations as needed for events or community outreach activities, emphasizing skill development and creative processes.
· Take photos and document classes and workshops for promotional purposes, ensuring that The Bascom’s offerings are effectively showcased.
Visitor Engagement & Customer Service
- Serve as a primary point of contact for visitors and program participants, delivering exceptional customer service by addressing inquiries about programs, exhibits, and activities.
- Engage visitors in informative and meaningful conversations regarding current and upcoming workshops, exhibitions, and donation opportunities.
- Promote The Bascom’s mission by sharing impactful stories about the campus and its influence on the local community, aiming to inspire participation and support.
Event Coordination
- Assist with the planning and execution of art receptions, public programming, and other community events, ensuring that all logistical elements run smoothly.
- Help coordinate catering services, manage event setups, and provide support to ensure all events meet high standards of quality and enjoyment for participants.
- Collaborate with other departments as necessary to facilitate effective communication and coordination for special events.
Retail Sales & Operations
· Assist in retail operations by processing transactions at The Bascom’s store, providing excellent customer service, and ensuring accurate cash handling.
Additional Job Requirements
- Ability to traverse the space frequently to interact with visitors and program participants in a dynamic environment.
- Capability to move objects, including fragile artworks and weight-bearing loads, as needed.
- Effectively communicate with visitors and clients regarding class opportunities, events, and sensitive donor information, ensuring accuracy and confidentiality.
- Flexibility to work a varied schedule, including evening hours, holidays, and weekends as necessary.
Qualifications:
- Associate’s degree in Arts, Education, Communications, or related field; or equivalent experience.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, coupled with a passion for community engagement and the arts.
- Exceptional organizational and multitasking abilities with a keen attention to detail.
- Previous experience in a customer service capacity, preferably in a cultural or nonprofit setting.
Familiarity with retail operations and basic financial management is a plus.
