The laboratory assistant is responsible for collecting and preparing samples, performing basic laboratory tests, maintaining equipment, following established procedures, and recording data. Ensuring accurate and reliable results within a laboratory setting while adhering to safety guidelines; their duties typically include preparing lab equipment, collecting and processing samples, data entry, and maintaining a clean and organized workspace.
Responsibilities may include:
- Accurately collecting, labeling, and preparing samples for analysis according to established protocols.
- Cleaning, calibrating, and performing basic troubleshooting on laboratory equipment.
- Carrying out routine waived laboratory tests using established techniques and following safety procedures.
- Accurately recording data from equipment and observations in laboratory data sheets or electronic systems.
- Entering data into laboratory information systems (LIS).
- Maintaining inventory of laboratory supplies and reagents.
- Cleaning and organizing the laboratory workspace to maintain a safe and hygienic environment.
- Adhering to all laboratory safety guidelines and reporting any hazards or accidents.
